Department Overview The main operating room at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Hospital includes nine surgical suites and one procedure room. Surgeries include everything from routine procedures, such as appendectomies, ear tubes and tonsillectomies, to innovative, state-of-the-art procedures, such as neuro, craniofacial, cochlear implantation and fetal surgeries. In a typical year, we perform more than 10,000 surgical procedures. Children's Minneapolis is a Level 1 designated Pediatric Trauma center. Education Requirements: * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. * Current Minnesota RN licensure. * Current BLS certification. * Completed Perioperative Nursing Course within the last three (3) years or completion of a capstone, internship, externship or similar type of experience in the OR at 12 months, or at least one year of OR circulating experience within the last three (3) years. Department Overview Children’s Minnesota has the largest Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Minnesota. In the 30-bed PICU at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, our interdisciplinary team of intensivists, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, social workers and other professionals are dedicated to the advanced care of children with life- threatening critical diagnoses. We specialize in caring for children with a wide variety of acute and chronic illnesses, including those with respiratory failure, neurological insults, complex post-operative recovery from extensive surgery, severe infections, fluid imbalances and multi-system organ failure. Children’s Minneapolis is an ACS Level I trauma center and our PICU cares for children who have experienced a wide range of traumatic events. Many of our patients require assisted ventilation. We also utilize extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) when needed. Our patient population requires complex care, including hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. Department Overview The Midwest Children's Resource Center provides medical diagnosis, psychological assessment, and treatment for children and their families affected by physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect. In addition, they are available for telephone consultation 24/7 for child protection, law enforcement agencies, physicians, therapists, attorneys, and concerned parent. They offer training, internships, and fellowhips for physicians, advanced practice nurses, and professionals interested in expanding their knowledge and skill in medical evaluation, interviewing children, psychological assessment, and treating abused children. Position Summary This position provides specialized medical consultation, evaluation, and care for children and adolescents with concerns related to child maltreatment. Key responsibilities include: * Providing phone consultation and triage for caregivers, medical providers, and community professionals. * Conducting medical evaluations, including video-recorded histories, for suspected victims of child maltreatment. * Collecting physical evidence in acute cases of sexual assault or abuse involving children and adolescents. * Providing medical evaluations and ongoing care for adolescents in youth shelter settings. * Coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team. * Occasionally providing testimony in legal proceedings. Schedule and Work Location This is a 0.9 FTE position with day hours. The role is primarily based in the MCRC outpatient clinic in St. Paul. On-Call Coverage and Travel The position includes on-call coverage during nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call responsibilities may involve evaluating acute presentations of physical and sexual abuse at both Children’s campuses.The role also requires travel to youth shelters one to three times per week to provide health education and reproductive health care. Education: * Master's degree from an accredited college. * Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. License/Certification/Registration: * Current Minnesota RN/APRN Licensure. * Current Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area. The surgical technologist provides highly skilled intra-operative technical expertise and care for the surgical patient through planning and implementation of the needs of the surgical procedure. The wide variety of skills include; assisting the surgeon, set up and scrub all surgical procedures, and may specialize in a specific field such as cardiac or neurological surgery, or in addition a laser specialist, participates in specialty procedures outside the operating room. Responsible for aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field while constantly anticipating surgeons needs. Utilizes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology to anticipate the patients and surgeons needs before they arise to attain the best outcome for the patient and keeping surgical time to a minimum. Position Summary The Hospital Nursing Supervisor (HNS) directs, organizes, plans and coordinates overall activities of the hospital involving a high degree of judgment, initiative, and leadership including the ability to anticipate and positively react to technical, organizational, and administrative issues during their assigned shifts. The HNS provides leadership, coordination and management of personnel, and assumes responsibility for hospital administrative functions Monday through Friday when management/administration is not in-house and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. The HNS maintains efficient utilization of nursing resources, working collaboratively with unit leadership, the resource management coordinators (RMCs), and charge nurses. The HNS plays a critical role in patient placement, the admission status process, and the facilitation of direct admissions during routine and surge situations. This individual is visible and available to clinical areas within all areas providing patient care to facilitate patient placement, collaboration with and among charge nurses, and evaluate current and potential staffing concerns. The HNS interprets administrative/departmental policy and procedures for all personnel and acts as an administrative liaison, clinical resource, and role model for staff. They are responsible for triaging operational issues or clinical areas of concern and alerting the Administrator On-Call (AOC), Patient Care Director On-Call (DOC), or Patient Care Manager On-Call (PCM-OC) when needed. The HNS assists in the resolution of issues relating to physicians, patients, families and staff and performs investigations pertaining to incidents/occurrences during their shift as well as reporting to the on call leadership team. License/Certification/Registration: * Registered Nurse in MN required * BLS required Education: * Bachelor's degree preferred * CPI or Behavioral Health Care & Personal Safety Course within 6 months of hire Experience: * 3 to 5 years hospital-based nursing experience. * Nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting. Could include performance in managerial or supervisory roles as well as charge nurse, educator, and resource nurse roles. * Utilization of electronic health record systems (e.g., Cerner). Experience with electronic bedboard and surgery scheduling a plus. At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies with life-changing diagnoses. We specialize in caring for infants needing level III and level IV intensive care, including babies born prematurely or with birth defects, congenital heart disease, genetic disorders or medical disorders; babies who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); babies needing body cooling, and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, such as hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are part of the Mother Baby Center in Minneapolis at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, which includes a large high-risk delivery service, a fetal surgery program and a perinatal clinic. Position Summary The Hospital Nursing Supervisor (HNS) directs, organizes, plans and coordinates overall activities of the hospital involving a high degree of judgment, initiative, and leadership including the ability to anticipate and positively react to technical, organizational, and administrative issues during their assigned shifts. The HNS provides leadership, coordination and management of personnel, and assumes responsibility for hospital administrative functions Monday through Friday when management/administration is not in-house and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. In this unit, we care for patients along their continuum of acute recovery to provide for their changing physical and emotional needs as we prepare them to return home. Position Summary The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the patient care team. The wide variety of skills include; assisting the surgeon, set up and scrub all surgical procedures, and may specialize in a specific field such as cardiac or neurological surgery, or in addition a laser specialist, participates in specialty procedures outside the operating room. Functions as a call team member for all emergency procedures. The surgical technologist operates as the sterile team member on all surgical procedures. Responsible for aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field while constantly anticipating surgeons needs. Utilizes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology to anticipate the patients and surgeons needs before they arise to attain the best outcome for the patient and keeping surgical time to a minimum.
