DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The 28-bed mixed-acuity unit cares for patients who have been implanted with an LVAD, which is unique to the heart and vascular critical care and heart and vascular progressive care units. Nurses also care for acute cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and congenital heart patients. The HVPCU is a current AACN Silver Beacon Award winner and 2-time AACN Gold Beacon award winner, which recognizes excellence in nursing care and nurse satisfaction at the unit level. In addition, the HVPCU had the highest patient satisfaction of inpatient units for FY 2024. HVPCU is an all RN staff and operates with a nurse patient ratio of 1:2-3, as well as a dedicated charge nurse free from a patient assignment. HVPCU is one of two inpatient units that care for advanced Heart Failure patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) and continuous inotrope support. With a mix of both medical and surgical service lines, the HVPCU nurse is well rounded in both types of nursing. Aside from vasopressors, the HVPCU manages and titrates multiple IV drips, and manages complex patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The HVPCU RN is responsible for managing all aspects of patient care and coordinating with the multidisciplinary team for the best patient outcomes. Graduate nurse residents are expected to remain full-time on one unit for the entire year of the program, as well as actively participate in all learning opportunities that are offered. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION : With 39 beds, this unit serves patients with hematological and oncologic malignancies as well as patients receiving stem cell transplants and CAR T-cell Therapy. Nurses in this unit receive training in chemotherapy administration and the care of hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant patient. Nurses complete Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONS/ONCC) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification as part of orientation.
