Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. Collects data to assist in regulatory compliance, quality improvement and patient satisfaction issues. Initiates various specialty skills to include, but not limited to endotracheal intubation, blood gas sampling from capillary, venous, and arterial sites, umbilical venous insertion, and needle decompression. Ability to perform duties on all transport modalities including rotor-wing, fixed-wing, or ground ambulance. Provides a complete and accurate report to Medical Control. Makes recommendations to medical directors during transport as appropriate. Accurately and completely documents patient care via electronic software. Assists in draping the patient to establish the sterile field, in accordance with AORN Standards and Recommended Practices and established departmental policies. Provides and anticipates the needs and requests of the surgeon. Ensures that appropriate instrumentation and supplies are readily available in the room or on the sterile field. Maintains the sterile field upon completion of the surgical procedure until the patient has been transferred from the OR room. Inserts indwelling foley catheters when ordered by physician. Performs surgical scrub according to procedure. Gowns and gloves self and others following gowning and gloving policy and procedure.
