Bargaining Unit UUP Job Summary The Department of Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Assistant Director of Nursing / Nurse Practitioner. The successful candidate will: Manage and provide care for the patient requiring neonatal intensive care utilizing collaborative consultation with team members, under the direction and supervision (but not necessarily the direct attendance) of an attending neonatologist. Provide prenatal consultations as needed. Receive a distressed neonate in the Delivery Room and initiates appropriate intervention. Perform a complete newborn physical examination and assessment of gestational age, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings. Conduct parent interviews and take family history. Collaborate with neonatologists concerning pertinent historical events, physical findings, diagnostic and therapeutic measures initiated on all admissions. Order appropriate laboratory tests and procedures. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient (from ELBW to LOA babies). Review and provide general care items involved in neonatal care, such as temperature stabilization, hyperalimentation therapy, feeding management, etc. Obtain patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination of the NICU patient. Order, perform and interpret diagnostic studies. Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions. Document on delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy. Perform procedures, to include intubation, umbilical lines, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis/chest tube placement, PICC line placement, Participate in and attend to high-risk deliveries including stabilization and management of complex critical needs of the newborn. Demonstrate strong newborn assessment, management, and delivery room skills. Participate in neonatal transport, if/when needed. Work collaboratively with experienced neonatologists and APPs in a team-centered atmosphere. Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Required Qualifications Master of Science Degree. New York State Nurse Practitioner License. APRN National Specialty Certification. Board Certified or eligible. Current BLS and NRP Certification. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of neonatal nurse practitioner work experience.
