UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011. Anesthesia Critical Care encompasses four areas: Surgical ICU, Rapid Recovery Unit, Cardiac ICU, and the East Campus ICU. The Rapid Recovery Unit (RRU) is a perioperative unit that can provide ICU-level care for patients who require less than 24 hours of care before being downgraded to IMU, med-surg, or home. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will follow standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide follow through with the care plan. Assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgement is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, incumbents perform operational level duties as described in the Series Concept. The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning and development of patient education information. May perform other related duties as assigned. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program. Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification, or must be obtained prior to the provider credentialing application and subsequent employment start date. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) Certification (AGACNP or ACNP). BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date. At least one (1) year of adult critical care experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner. Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes. Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures, e.g., laboratory blood tests, x-rays, EKGs, biopsies, and GI endoscopies. Demonstrated strong computer skills and knowledge of PCIS/Epic for retrieval of patient data (Computer skills required; PCIS/Epic preferred). Knowledge of clinical laboratory values and skill in identifying deviations. Demonstrated experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short-range treatment plans. Knowledge of study formats, with ability to edit charts and resolve inconsistencies. Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history and acquiring pertinent data. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced unit and triage acute patients while managing time. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Two (2+) or more years of adult critical care experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Shifts may include Monday-Sunday days and nights in the RRU and Surgical ICU. Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs. JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse II collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members. Responsible for independently applying the nursing process through the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of pediatric patient care. Resolves patient problems and needs by applying multidisciplinary team strategies. Selects and coordinates the appropriate care, taking into consideration the age, developmental level and size of the patient. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration, storage procedures and controlled substance regulations. Should be able to identify own limitations and seek resources as needed. Maintains a collaborative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree in Nursing 1 year of experience Current California RN License BLS for Healthcare Providers, issued by American Heart Association NRP Certification (AAP) - within 3 months of hire PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing 3 years of experience Professional nursing certification ALS Experience The current salary range for this position is $64.39 to 92.09 A candidate’s placement in the range will be determined based on the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
