ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs and prepares patients for provider exam. Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing. Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings as instructed and documents in EPIC EMR. Responsible for reviewing both Provider refill in basket and assisting with daily medication refill request using the ARC refill protocol. Responsible for reviewing EPIC triage call in basket for any callbacks. Responsible for reviewing result note in basket and calling /informing patients of normal lab results. Ensures rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates. Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry. Ensures laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens on a daily basis. Follows directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor. Follows clinic protocols. Provides patients with educational materials as directed. Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct. Regular and dependable attendance. Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on CMSweb. Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May be responsible for answering incoming phone calls coming into nursing triage, which include the following: Determines if the call is low acuity or high acuity by demonstrating strong listening skills. If able to assist patient in a non-clinical situation, will continue the call. Forwards to the appropriate clinical staff member on duty if the call requires any clinical intervention. Responsible for (but not limited to): ADD symptoms/Questions, Medication Refill requests, Referral questions, request for copies of lab or immunization records, request for lab releasing to my chart, lab results if sign off by provider, general calls from pharmacies and medication not covered by their insurance. Utilizes the smart phrases when taking any phone messages and routing directly to the provider. Posts patient test results through patient’s mychart portal. Refills medication following the ARC refill protocols. May assist providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Obtains applicable consents and completes all necessary documentation in EPIC EMR. May maintain equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc). Performs other duties within the scope of the unlicensed personnel as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Required to meet one of the following: Medical Assistant experience, or CNA/EMT/PCT(or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care, beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or Graduate of a medical assistant program. Preferred: Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant. Certificate/License Medical Assistant certification preferred. Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to administer medications & injections within scope of position within 90 days of hire. Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent organizational skills. Overview: In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient) and staff across all disciplines and departments is responsible for performing selected clinical duties including administrative/clerical duties, basic patient care and/or performing administrative tasks associated with patient intake. Responsibilities: Essential Duties: • Accurately interview patient and record patient history and measure and record vital signs such as height, weight, BMI, head circumference, current medications, pulse oximetry level and patient comfort level. • Verify patient information such as, but not limited to demographics, insurance, vitals and medications; complete intake process including verifying and entering patient data into EHR/EPM. • Perform duties such as greeting and assisting patients in a courteous and professional manner, answer telephone and provide information as necessary, verify patient information, etc. • Collect, perform, document, and report results of CLIA waived lab tests including, but not limited to: urine dip, pregnancy tests, finger stick blood glucose levels, fecal occult blood tests, rapid influenza tests, and rapid strep tests. • Collect, prepare and document specimen collection including, but not limited to: blood, urine, stool, and sputum. • Perform clinical duties as assigned including, but not limited to: preparing patients for examinations and /or treatments, assisting provider with exams or procedures, setting up exam or procedure rooms, and preparing instruments for sterilization. • Complete pre visit planning to support the clinical visit. • Administer medications per CUC formulary. • Perform medical acts as prescribed by Standing Delegation Orders. • Dismiss patient at end of clinic visit including completing the orders documented in the orders module, tasks, and patient plan. • Participate in orientation of new employees and attend mandatory meetings. • Work as a team member, interacting with staff, patients and providers to communicate and coordinate patient care and work flow effectively. • Coordinate and manage patient care including communicating test results to patient, assist with pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling of patients for clinic, hospital and other ancillary medical treatments and tests. Follow up on diagnostic test to ensure that test have been completed and documentation is completed in EHR. • Perform surveillance programs to include but not limited to complete medical records including labs, authorizations, X-Rays, hospital records and any previous care pertaining to each patient visit • Maintain a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms and storage areas as per CUC guidelines • As assigned, may serve as a scribe accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the provider, including but not limited to the following duties: o Patient medical history and physical exam, o Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants. o Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits. o Provider-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up o Prepare referral letters as directed by the provider • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMUM EDUCATION: • Graduation from high school or equivalent. • Medical Assistant Diploma and/or National Medical Assistant Certification verifying graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent military healthcare experience. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: • Completion of a medical assistant externship REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
