Summary The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving to include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated. Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration. Verbalize to patients/family/significant other the medication they are receiving. Assesses the patient prior to administering medications noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness and intervening as needed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None Education and/or Experience: Education Required: Must possess a nursing diploma or degree from an accredited nursing program for registered nurses. Education Preferred: BSN preferred. If Diploma Nurse or ADN, employee must acquire BSN within 3 years of hire date. Experience Required: Minimum 1 year RN experience. Experience Preferred: Medical Surgical / Pediatrics preferred. License and/or Certification Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) required and maintained thereafter. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required upon hire and maintained thereafter. Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by department. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Demonstrates all of the CT. Children’s Core Organizational Competencies or has potential to do so as well as any clinical competencies within specialty areas. Work with different specialties and teams. Travel to any Connecticut Children’s location, including distal satellite offices, and has reliable transportation. Learn and demonstrate competency in standard clinical procedures within specialty area, according to established protocols. Maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Learn and follow established protocols in order to initiate appropriate action in emergency/crisis situations Effectively work in a team environment as well as collaboratively with all disciplines.
