Trauma Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Night Shift Position Overview: The Trauma Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers direct patient care consistent with the APP’s education, experience, and certification, in collaboration with the attending Trauma Surgery physicians. This includes the diagnosis, management, and referral of health care issues specific to Trauma. The APP will provide comprehensive overnight management of adult trauma patients in a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma Center environment. The Trauma Night APP will primarily provide overnight coverage for patients admitted to the Trauma Service, respond to trauma activations, and assist with the evaluation and management of acute changes in patient condition. This role provides an opportunity to practice at the highest level of an APP’s training while caring for a diverse and complex trauma population. The Trauma Night APP will remain separate from the Trauma/Surgical ICU APP team and will not be responsible for routine ICU coverage or management. Key Responsibilities: · Collaborate with Trauma attending physicians, surgical residents and Trauma APPs to provide comprehensive overnight care for trauma patients. · Perform initial and ongoing assessments of trauma patients, including review and interpretation of laboratories, imaging, and clinical data to develop and document appropriate assessments and treatment plans. · Respond to trauma activations in the resuscitation bay, perform trauma survey assessments, and stabilize high-acuity patients in accordance with Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) guidelines. · Independently evaluate and manage changes in clinical status, including recognition of patient deterioration and escalation of care when appropriate. · Perform bedside procedures for surgical and non-surgical trauma patients. · Provide overnight management of patients across the trauma service, including the trauma floor. · Provide pre- and post-operative management of trauma patients and collaborate with the surgical team regarding operative and non-operative treatment plans. · Work collaboratively with Trauma Surgery attendings, residents, nursing, intensivists, and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care. · Complete timely documentation, orders, and implementation of care plans. · Assist with patient disposition and coordination of care, including communication with consulting services and multidisciplinary teams. · Promote patient and family education, advocacy, and engagement throughout the trauma care process. · Uphold the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System. Operates in accordance with Section 4723.431 of the Ohio Revised Code and rule adopted by the Board of Nursing for Advanced Practice Nurses, the national board certifying agency, and maintains a Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician(s) on the medical staff. Performs health assessments and physical exams Identifies significant health and medical risk factors. Orders, interprets and evaluates tests and studies to assess clinical problems and health care needs. Develops a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data. Independently and in collaboration with the physician, develops treatment plans along with the patient and significant others. Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with board certification, state law and organizational medical staff privileges. May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through Ohio Board of Nursing and hospital policy. Develops patient education plan. Participates in medical team rounds; collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care. Performs admission history & physical, document progress notes, complete discharge summaries as required. Provides consultations and requests consults as directed and in accordance with hospital bylaws. Assists with and facilitates discharge planning. This review is completed via the Focused Professional Performance Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) for Advanced Practice Providers as part of Joint Commission requirements 6. Practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems 7. Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a bi-annual basis to assure quality care and per ORC requirements 8.
