Administers medication according to hospital policies; understands and monitors age specific data including meds, lab/diagnostic results, etc Patient Care Responsibilities Applies principles of infection control and safety in the performance of patient care. Communicates effectively with charge nurse and other member of the health care team regarding patient's needs and/or changes in condition. Responds appropriately in crisis situation; able to prioritize. Reports significant unit problems to the charge nurse. Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served and complies with the Bill of Rights. Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps. Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct. Other Duties: Orients patient and family to new environment; develops rapport with patients family and/or significant others. Orients LPNs, Nurses’ Aides and orderlies as required. Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy. Participates on unit committees and in CQI activities as assigned. Participates in patient care conferences and in staff development activities as required. Assists other personnel as needed. Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization. Position Qualifications: Current NJ license as an LPN. Successful completion of Progressive Care Orientation Program required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required. IV certification preferred. Clinical nursing skills appropriate for an LPN. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position. Education: Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing or equivalent education as described by the state education law is required. Responsibilities of the (RN) Registered Nurse • Record a patient’s medical history accurately • Take and record measurements of blood pressure, temperature, heart rate etc. • Observe patients under treatment to identify progress, side-effects of medications etc. • Monitor patients’ condition including fluid intake and output and compose patient charts • Assist ailing patients in daily necessary activities such as eating, bathing etc. • Administer injections, prescribed medications, enemas etc., clean and dress wounds and assist with other basic medical care tasks • Collect samples for lab testing as assigned • Provide emotional and psychological support when needed • Communicate with patients’ family or friends to provide advice, comfort and release instructions
