Position Summary (CMA) Under the direction of the physician, Charge RN or Manager performs direct clinical activities in a courteous, caring and respectful manner. These include patient intake, blood draw, pharmacy calls, EKG and any tests required by the physician. Responsible for accurately documenting in an EMR system in accordance with licensure and VMG policy and procedures. Maintains close working relationships with all practice staff to ensure proper workflow, care and treatment. o (BA) Performs a variety of essential front desk activities that include greeting, registering, ensuring insurance compliance and collecting appropriate payment at time of service. Responsible for maintaining the daily patient schedule and answers all incoming calls that results in scheduling an appointment, medication refills or pass along inquiries from a clinical or billing nature, in a courteous, caring and respective manner. Coordinates with the clinical staff on any special needs or requirements and ensuring proper patient flow. Supports the Practice and professional staff as directed or requested by Practice Manager. Education High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a formal Medical Assistant program that is recognized by the State of New Jersey. Certification required. Completion of formal coursework in office management, database management or business. Computer l Experience Previous MA experience in a clinic, physician's office or outpatient setting preferred. Six (6) months of previous customer service/data entry, administrative/office management/clerical experience required. Skills Current and valid certification as a certified medical assistant or registered medical assistant recognized by the Board of Examiners such as American Medical Technology (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required. o BCLS certification preferred upon hire, will be required. Understanding of the operations of a medical practice preferred. Strong orientation towards the provisions of high quality, cost effective and comprehensive medical care. Ability to use effective organizational and time management skills to set priorities and respond quickly to urgent/emergent situations. Strong communication--both oral, written and presentation skills to convey information in a clear and concise manner to persons of varied age groups, customers and/or groups. Ability to create, maintain and support a high functioning team; establish and foster cooperative working relationships with staff and management; and function effectively as part of that team. Performs complete health history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment of patients within the designated practice or clinical unit. Orders customary laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies per practice protocols, differentiates between normal/abnormal findings and follows protocols for abnormal findings, which may include referral to consulting physicians per customary pattern of the attending MD or with collaborating physician. Formulates the plan of care, along with the attending physician, patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay. Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/ family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes. Prescribes in-patient and discharge medications according to New York State law, including controlled substances with DEA authorization. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol. Practices as member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the medical staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges. Evaluates treatment and health care plans for effectiveness and modifies per clinical standards and practice protocols. Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care. Promotes own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial role. Maintains current expertise in area of practice. Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals. Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for purposes of quality and performance improvement. Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in the development and implementation of clinical studies within the area of expertise. Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable. Monitors and trends the cost effectiveness of the position, particularly as it relates to the efficiency and performance indicators established for service. Job Details St. Francis Hospital Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a valuable team member. Primary responsibility is the management of critically ill and complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting. This setting includes the management of patients in the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU) and Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The APP is under the direct supervision of an in-hospital 24/7 Critical Care board certified Intensivist program. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services in a specific ICU. Responsibilities: Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-system disease /failure, according to established protocols and evidence-based clinical practice standards. Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
