Key Job Duties and Responsibilities The Certified Medication Aide assists in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse, and the RCC. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of this Community, and the requirements of this state. The following is a general list of key job duties and responsibilities in your position. The list is not to be considered inclusive and you will be required to perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by an authorized supervisor. Duties and Responsibilities Comply with the Community’s personnel, safety, and corporate policies and procedures. Comply with the nursing department’s policies and procedures. Report witnessed or reported allegations of resident abuse/neglect immediately to the Executive Director, RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse Treat residents, family members, visitors, and team members with respect and dignity. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident and family information. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Report any complaints/grievances made by residents to the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse or per policy. Participate and cooperate with any Community surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Executive Director or RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse. Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room. Always protect resident privacy when administering medication, knock before entering the resident’s room. Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document the oral and/or topical medications that are commonly used in this Community that may be ordered for resident use by the attending physician or the Medical Director. Document and report errors in the administration of medications immediately upon discovery. Ensure that all medications administered are properly labeled and follow Community policy on storage, labeling and dating of medications. Complete medication charting per Community policy and procedure. Assist with following Community policies and procedures regarding the destroying of medications. Assist in documenting and removing medications that are discontinued by the attending physician. Follow Community procedures governing drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse. Follow Community procedures in holding medications for residents who are out of the Community or per physician’s order. Honor the resident’s right to refuse medications. Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed. Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered including reason(s) for refusal. Promptly notify the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any refusals or reactions to medications by residents. Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed, dated order from an attending licensed physician. Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication treatment. Follow the Community’s procedures allowing residents to self-administer their medications. Assist the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse in monitoring and documenting all aspects of such self-administering. Notify nurse when medication refills are needed. Be familiar with the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by the Community, pharmacists, and physicians. Use personal protective equipment when performing procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluids. Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the RCC/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse immediately. Follow established safety precautions in the performance of all duties. Wash hands before and after performing any service for the resident. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the Community’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents. Assist residents in daily hygiene and toileting needs, along with all other daily living activities. Assist CNAs with daily duties when needed. In this role you will be responsible for the safe administration of all prescribed medications and treatments as listed on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and Treatment Administration Record (TAR), provides personal are and general nursing care to residents as needed or assigned, ensures delivery of care and services to all residents in the community to include Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), room cleanliness, scheduled activities and dining services and individual service plan need of each assigned resident.Job DescriptionResponsible for supervision of self-administered medication for the Assisted Living Department in compliance with Federal & State regulations and Senior Lifestyle Corporation guidelines as directed by the LPN/LVN/RN and/or the Assisted Living Director/Health and Wellness Director.Count and sign on approved form, all narcotics with approved personnel before accepting medication keys. Contact a supervisor immediately with discrepancies.Order all necessary medication and treatments from appropriate pharmacy or notify responsible party when supply is no less than 7 days.Notify supervisor when supply is less than 2 days and medicine hasn’t been received.Responsible for receiving and verifying all medicine received is accurate according to pharmacy label and MAR. Notifies pharmacy and DH&W of any discrepancies.Responsible for proper storage of all medications and ensuring all lotions, ointments and liquids stored separately from oral medications.Responsible for dating all appropriate vials or bottles at time of initial opening and following pharmacy protocol on length of time they can be used.Responsible for weekly inspections of all medications to ensure all expired medications are removed.Responsible for verifying all current MARs are compared to new MARs at change over time and notifying the supervisor of any discrepancies.Responsible for removing all discontinued medication from med cart and giving it to the supervisor.Provide personal care to residents to include, but not limited to, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, and eating, etc.Provide general nursing care to include, but not limited to, vital signs, temperatures, blood pressure, and weights.Document appropriate information in the daily log as required and notify supervisor of all concerns.Answer calls and assist residents with needs as assigned.Responsible for daily cleaning of all medicine carts at end of shift and restocking as needed. Responsible for weekly deep cleaning of all med carts.Attend and participate in staff training and in-services.Must maintain accurate records to include preparation of all medical charts for new admissions and readmissions and ensures medical record is complete within forty-eight (48) hours as Policy and Procedure (P&P) and regulatory guidelines.QualificationsLevel of Formal Education: A High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Years of Experience: 1+ months of experience Type of Experience: Senior Living preferred Special Certifications: Current Medication Technician certification depending on state regulations Language Skills: Acceptable proficiency in English to perform job duties, communicate with supervisor and other employees, and respond and communicate to emergency situations. This individual must perform these tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.
