The LPN on Maternal Child Health is responsible for direct patient care to all patients within the Maternal Child Health department. The position will work collaboratively with all department members to implement and evaluate the patient's physical, psychological emotional, educational and spiritual needs under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills are required as well as being able to interact with people from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. Roles and Responsibilities: Dispenses medication within scope of practice and accurately documents in patients EMR. Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals Obtaining data related to patient care and recording accurately in the patients EMR. Reports abnormal findings or changes in mental and emotional conditions of the patient to the RN. Examples include changes in vital signs, abnormal weight gain or loss, inability to locate a fetal heart rate, increase in pain, etc . Responds promptly to call bells and patient needs. Know what surgical procedure is being performed, Follows AORN Guidelines/Hospital P&P for surgical hand scrub, anticipate surgeon's needs, make sure a "time out" has been called before handing scalpel to the surgeon, and maintain a sterile field. Appropriately stocks all areas of the department, including the OR and does bi-weekly audits of the OR. Knows how to appropriately perform and document a hearing screen. Appropriately sets up, cleans (including equipment) and stocks after a delivery and C-section. Full time night position with weekend and holiday rotation requirements. Required Skills and Experience: Current NYS LPN license Preferred Skills and Experience: Will obtain BLS during introductory period, ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire. Previous experience in Maternal Child Health Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (g. use of the computer keyboard) light lifting in regards to patient care. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to patient care. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job. AWHONN’s Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course for all L&D RNs is required and must be obtained within 3 months of completing L&D training and renewed every 2 years. Advanced Fetal Monitoring course is also acceptable. RN-C in specialty preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools. Job Summary Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the University of Michigan is a 60 bed Level IV neonatal center serving our region, state and beyond. We remain one of the state's leading referral centers for premature newborns and infants with complex medical problems, complex surgical problems or unusual anomalies, need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and whole body cooling for hypothermic neuroprotection. About 80% of the Newborn ICU admissions are inborn and 20% are transported from our referral region and state. We offer 24/7 neonatal transport services with Newborn ICU RNs as members of the transport team. Our specialized nursing team members provide quality nursing care to newborns from the acute phase of illness through recovery. A family-centered approach to care is practiced in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. We provide individualized support and education to families during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge. We empower families to participate in decision making for and in the care of their child. This position is a 9-month internship program which prepares the new Graduate Nurse for an RN position in Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Orientation includes a combination of classroom and precepted clinical experience. A two-year commitment with a minimum of 32 hrs/wk to Brandon NICU is required after the completion of the 9-month internship program. Hospital Care at Home (Program Functions – Patient Care Hub) • Administers patient care within the virtual hospitalsetting, Patient Care Hub, where an acute care patientreceives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, a medical condition, or post intervention with assessment.• Assessesthroughtheuseof TeleHealthtechnology thepatient’s needs and develops/revises an individualized plan of carebased on patient needs and responses. Evaluatesthe patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes.• Capable of using TeleHealth technology to conduct virtual patient care visits to our hospital at home patients; assess clinical symptoms, possess critical thinking skills and ability to escalate potential patient decompensation.• Collaborates with the in-home clinical and supportstaff team to effectively supportthe patient care needs.• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patientsserved on his or her assigned virtual unit/ department. Hospital Care at Home (Program Functions – In-homeNursing) • Administers direct patient care within the hospital at home inpatient home setting where an acute care patientreceives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, a medical condition, or post intervention with assessment.• Assessesthepatient’s needs and contributestothe individualized plan of care based on patient needs and responses.• Ability to travel and enter patient homes as the patient hospital at home and place of service within a specific geographical region.• Collaborates with the virtual Patient Care Hub clinical team and supportstaff team to effectively deliver care to support the patient care needs.• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patientsserved on his or her assigned unit/ department. Competency to address any urgent and or emergent patient needs as directed.• Demonstrates competency to work autonomously and be productive in a hospital at home environment.• Capable of using in-home virtual technology to connect with the Patient Care Hub and conduct virtual visits for patientsin the home• Transports and deliversitems, equipment, and medications(excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) as requested. Qualifications Education/Training • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.• Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department. Licensure/Certification • Maintains current State of Alabama RN license or valid eNLCmultistate RN license• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.• ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP required for Neonatal Intensive care Unit(NICU).• Must possess a valid driver’slicense and hasreliable transportation to travel to perform job dutiesfor Hospital Care at Home Inhome nursing Experience 1 year experience required unless approved by AVP level or above.
