Description Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Canning Thoracic Institute as part of our rapidly growing Lung Transplant Team. CTI operated collaboratively across the Northwestern Medicine health system to advance our mission to deliver the highest quality care for patients with diseases of the chest, promote clinical innovation and discovery, and improve lung health in the Greater Chicago Community. In this role you will work closely with our transplant pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons to support our growing inpatient Lung Transplant ICU Team. The APP will provide primary management to patients in the ICU as well as consultative coverage for transplant patients in the MICU or CTICU. Some role responsibilities include complex ventilator management, central line and arterial line placement, and management of medically complex patients. This role will be 100% inpatient. Schedule: 3 x 12 hour shifts plus 4 hours administrative time. NIGHTS ONLY, rotating weekends, no call. Essential Functions: Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems. Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population. Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise. Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff in areas of expertise. Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care. Actively participates in quality improvement and/or research pertinent to area of expertise. Responsibilities : Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations in clinical area. Provides direct clinical care to patients. Prescribes/orders medications, therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures according to clinical privileges. Evaluates patients to determine their need for further health care. Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families. Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and/or procedures performed for which the Licensed Advanced Practice Provider is responsible. The hired APRN will care for critically ill patients, pre and post operatively, with congenital heart disease. They will often manage patients on vasoactive support, mechanical ventilation, CRRT, and ECMO or Ventricular Assist Devices. Patient population varies from neonates to adults with congenital heart disease that require repeat intervention. The hours for this position will include three thirteen hours shifts including rotating days/nights/weekends and holidays. Call will also be required. Previous APP experience is preferred, however new graduates with ICU experience are welcome to apply.
