The Surgical Inpatient APP Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner position provides patient care under the auspices of the Moffitt Medical Group (MMG) and serves as member of the academic medical enterprise; advancing the institutional mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer. The inpatient care will also include discharge planning and management under the guidance of the attending. This position will work closely with Residents and Fellows to care for the patients. This position will also attend to inpatient consults as requested. Assessment and escalation are critical components of this position. Credentials And Qualifications Bachelor's degree at minimum; master's degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Advanced Registered Nurse program. Active FL medical license (or the ability to obtain one) and national certification by the appropriate accreditation body. Active BLS and ACLS. (Must be AHA approved) Experience in oncology or general internal medicine; previous specific experience preferred. Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up. Writes prescriptions for medications and blood products based upon laboratory results, orders and interprets routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and postdischarge care in accordance with written practice protocols. Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care. Assesses and follows consult patients when required and independently of physician when needed. Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests and intervenes accordingly. Advises collaborating physician of appropriate information regarding patient care and reports to the physician the actions provided to the patients. Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement. Possess and maintain valid CPR certification while employed in a clinical role, preferred Must be a licensed driver who can travel to all business locations Meet the regulations and requirements of the state(s) in which program provides services Responsibilities: As a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, you will: Develop and implement clinical plans of care for patients with chronic and terminal illnesses Perform patient assessment, history and physical; recommendations on aggressive symptom-management Monitor patient progress; update the Medical Director, Team Director and team members; consult regarding discharge plannning; and patient/family teaching Maintain communication with the supervisory physician (s) and attending physician to review patient records and care plans on a routine basis Initiate communication with attending physicians, other Palliative Care staff members and other agencies as needed to coordinate optimal care and use of resources for patient/family May provide support at time of death Prescribe medication as permitted by the state and/or the State Board of Nursing Participate in continum of care for patients that are hospice appropriate and ongoing education programs.
