A Brief Overview The advanced practice provider (APP) provides patient centered, specialized, evidence based care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. APP's are board-certified providers that assume responsibility and accountability for health stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of acute and chronic illness or injury. This role contributes to the mission and vision of the organization by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Nebraska state statues, administrative code and organization bylaws. The APP is committed to a culture of clinical excellence, respect, innovation, and academic inquiry through collaborative practice with all members of the care delivery team. Essential Functions Responsible for providing safe, comprehensive and compassionate clinical care. Assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments, and evaluates clinical outcomes. Seeks and integrates the perspectives of inter-professional team members in developing and implementing the plan of care. Preforms diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes medications and complex medical regimes while monitoring for desired and adverse outcomes, specific to the infant/child with high risk, complex acute, critical, or chronic conditions. Applies evidence based medicine pertinent to neonatal/pediatric populations. Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety and their influence on healthcare outcomes and sustainability. Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice and to improve patient care through sharing knowledge, leading teams and developing programs. Constant consideration of child’s development, family’s readiness and resources when translating health information, education and support. Demonstrate understanding of internal and external rules, regulations and legislation as it relates to APP practice, licensure, certification and billing compliance. Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed. Demonstrates competency and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills. Our Pediatric Nurse Practitioners work collaboratively with flight nurses and paramedics to provide state-of-the-art critical care to pediatric patients, utilizing fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and critical care ground ambulances throughout Nebraska and surrounding states. As a stand-alone transport team, we often operate in multiple states within a single shift. This role requires proficiency in flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, and emergency procedures. Utilizing an advanced nursing process, the provider will assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while accurately documenting patient responses and outcomes. This position requires proficiency in pediatric pathophysiology, assessment skills, emergency and critical care medical decision making, lab and radiology results interpretation, and procedural skills, including: intubation, surgical and needle cricothyrotomy, central and arterial line placement, finger and tube thoracostomy, UAC/UVC placement, intraosseous access, and lumbar puncture. In collaboration with physicians and referral teams, the provider must demonstrate strong leadership through nursing judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
