EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited, post-basic educational program for nurse practitioners. Must possess a Master of Science in Nursing, with a specialization in Psychiatry preferred. The flight nurse will administer critical care nursing and treatment and determine the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish priority for required critical care nursing. Will assess the patient while in route to the emergency facility and administer additional care as indicated or given by approved protocols or medical direction. The flight nurse will deliver nursing care to patients prior to and during air and inter-facility and/or scene transport. Ability to tolerate various flight conditions including but not limited to altitude physiology, weather conditions, working within a pressurized aircraft and needing knowledge of effects on patients. The flight nurse will need to maintain a level of competency to remain knowledgeable of the equipment and its usage in medical transport. Provide standardized patient care hand off to the receiving facility by completing extensive written documentation on patient condition and treatment provided. Maintain knowledge and understanding of all applicable legal, moral and ethical issues surrounding the emergency medical service. Maintain communication with the patient and the family, com fort and reassure patients and be able to demonstrate concern and courtesy while maintaining confidentiality of the patient's information. Flight nurses as outlined by AirMed protocols will have the opportunity to perform procedures within a hospital setting in various areas, including but not limited to, trauma codes and critical cases. Hospital setting opportunities will provide additional hands-on training in certain areas of focus. Physical activities may require considerable use of arm s and legs and movement of whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Flight Nurses will be required to attend training classes to maintain any specialty certifications, state licensure, and keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge. In addition to training classes, the flight nurse will be required to obtain knowledge and perform advanced procedures and skills as outlined by AirMed protocols and maintain a high level of competency. Assist with teaching and educating others in patient care, air ambulance safety courses, helicopter landing, etc. Must be able to maintain a body weight of no more than 240 pounds. Depending on location, work hours will vary depending on patient needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred. Minimum three years of experience as an RN in Critical Care area and/or in nursing specialty area. About this Job: General Summary of Position THIS IS A PRN POSITION The Nurse Navigator is responsible for the coordination of patient care across the continuum under the auspices of a provider's prescribed plan of care national guidelines and within the scope of nursing practice. The navigator educates/provides information and support to patients in order to guide and facilitate understanding of treatment plans prescribed by licensed independent practitioners and/or within scope of nursing practice.
