CLINICAL NURSE MANAGER

Overview The Clinical Nurse Manger (CNM) is a direct supervisory leadership role and a key member of the Nursing leadership team. House Nurse Coordinator

Overview The House Nurse Coordinator is accountable for the management of nursing services on a given shift under the guidance of the Director of Nursing Services in order to provide safe, effective and efficient nursing care. Responsibilities Manage nursing services on the assigned shift in an efficient manner by planning, organizing and controlling all activities of the department(s). Implement, interpret and enforce work standards and procedures on the assigned shift that are in compliance with hospital policies, governmental regulations and various regulatory agency requirements. Serve as a role model for nursing staff by complying with established policies and procedures. Implement total quality management concepts into nursing service operations. Use the concepts of total quality management to evaluate the effectiveness of shift operations, make changes or recommendations for changes as indicated and assure that the appropriate staff and supplies are available to patients when needed. Determine the placement of patients according to nursing care needs and coordinate the transfer of patients or equipment in accordance with hospital policy. Coordinate the solution of interdepartmental problems with the appropriate management and administrative personnel. Provide direct patient care when higher levels of skill and judgement are required. Demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Relieve the Director of Nursing as required. Function as house supervisor as required. May work off shifts, weekends and holidays, be on-call and work more than standard hours. Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field so they may recommend new services, products and equipment. Continue professional development by attending education programs designed for nursing leaders. Interview, select, evaluate, discipline and terminate personnel or recommend such action as necessary. Special Instructions The Behavioral Nurse in the Emergency Department will focus on the behavioral health section of the ER. We treat a wide variety of patients that come through the ER for behavioral health services. Some are involuntary and some are voluntary. The behavioral health nurse would be responsible for the assessment, sitting, medication administration and all other duties as assigned in our locked behavioral health unit. They would talk with providers and deal directly with our inpatient behavioral health unit. When there are no patients in the behavioral health are this nurse will step out and help ER staff. These duties may include patient assessments, admission assessments, discharges, medication administration, transporting patients to other units and all other duties as assigned. They will have the same certification requirements as emergency room staff nurses and behavioral health experience is preferred. Maintain personnel records and related documentation as required. Develop and manage work schedules, including vacations, leaves of absence, call-ins, call-offs, and other staffing needs. Direct and supervise employee relations activities within the assigned unit(s). Attend management meetings and participate in the development of management and supervisory policies and procedures. Apply advanced clinical knowledge and serve as a role model and resource to nursing staff, including providing direct patient care as necessary. Direct, oversee, and assist in the delivery of patient care. Assist during emergency situations as needed. Train new and existing personnel through instruction and demonstration of safe and effective work practices. Assist assigned personnel in performing tasks and procedures when needed. Assist staff in the adjustment, operation, or testing of new equipment during installation and implementation periods. Provide support to assigned personnel to ensure patient care needs are met without interruption. Fill staffing gaps as needed to maintain safe patient care until additional personnel are available. Perform or assist with clinical treatments, procedures, and total patient care that require advanced skills and professional judgment in accordance with established standards of care. Perform patient care duties not otherwise assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education Graduate of an approved school of nursing and maintain a current, unrestricted nursing license in the state of employment. Preferred Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Required Experience Minimum of two (2) years of relevant nursing experience with demonstrated management potential and proficient clinical skills. Preferred Experience Five (5) years of relevant nursing experience preferred.
