Position Overview: The Director of Nursing Services (DNS) plans, coordinates, and provides total nursing care for residents and provides supervision and guidance to clinical care team members. Key Responsibilities: Assume responsibility of the community in the absence of the Executive Director. Implement policies/procedures with follow-up and supervision of care team members to ensure compliance; work closely with Medical Director, Health Department, CDC, etc. to ensure current standard practices are in place; recommend to regional office changes in policies/ procedures as needed. Assist in preparing budget for the department; administer approved budget. Direct and delegate management of professional and ancillary nursing care team members. Coordinate activities of various nursing units/wings promoting and maintaining harmonious relationships among nursing personnel and with medical staff, residents, community staff and the public; screen clients prior to admission to ensure the center can provide services. Analyze and evaluate nursing and related services rendered to improve quality of resident care and plan better utilization of care team member time and activities. Ensure positive outcomes are accomplished for residents; responsible to develop systems and work schedules that respect resident’s lifestyle and ensure the resident reaches the highest attainable level of functioning; make rounds at least daily; follow up daily on each shift to ensure changes in status are reported and recorded. Ensure a Continuous Quality Improvement Program is in place and that appropriate follow-up occurs. Ensure new care team members are effectively oriented; ensure an ongoing educational program is in place. Develop goals and objectives for the department; motivate and manage care team members to accomplish the same. Qualifications: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Licensed as a RN in the state employed; license must be active, valid, and in good standing. Must hold an active CPR license or ability to obtain within the first 30-days of hire; CPR license must be kept active and current throughout employment. Valid CPR teaching certificate preferred, but not required. Three year of nursing experience, of which one year in a long-term care environment. Must have at least two years supervisory experience. Summary Plans for, delivers, documents and evaluates nursing care of patients in an assigned area in terms of their individuals needs, according to provider’s orders and in conformance with approved and recognized nursing standards of care, recognized nursing techniques, procedures and administrative policy. Directs activities of assigned nursing personnel in such care. Observes, assesses and reports on the condition of patients. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of care reflecting patient’s condition, treatment, and response to care. Qualifications Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (or a program seeking accreditation). Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Ohio. Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.Must have: - A thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice, including basic knowledge relating to nursing such as biological, physical, psychosocial, and medical sciences and their applications. - A thorough knowledge of the use and care of instruments, equipment and supplies related to nursing service or ambulatory medical practice. - A thorough knowledge of the theory and principles of medical asepsis. - The ability to maintain positive working relations with other employees and medical staff. - A high degree of physical coordination and finger-hand dexterity.PRN and Float Staff must have a minimum of one year or number of years as determined by specific clinical unit, recent experience in area of clinical interest. All clinical nurses must possess or acquire within the defined period of time following placement into position, all unit-specific competencies as defined below:The American Heart Association (AHA) courses are the required certifications for (unit specific): - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), - Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) course is the required certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Preferred: BSN and certification:Operating Room: One year of OR experience; Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certificationPost Procedure Care Unit:One year PACU or critical care experience.Pediatric Clinic: Two years of pediatric experiencePsychiatry: One year of prior psychiatric experienceRadiology: Five years of critical care experience. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.Cardio-Pulm Rehab: Two years prior experience in Cardiac-Pulmonary Nursing (outpatient or inpatient). Previous experience with the following: smoking cessation, wellness, exercise in special populations (i.e., diabetes, obesity, arthritis)TB Clinic: Public Health or TB Experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, prior supervisory or project management experience. Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance. Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
