Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 6-8 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team, complemented by classroom courses, and a nurse residency program for new graduates.
