Job Description Position Summary: Under supervision of Registered Nurse, assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license. Education, License & Cert: Must be a graduate of a licensed practical nursing program. Must possess a current temporary practice permit (PA) or limited permit (NY) based on the state of practice. Write or call Rx after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed. Chart as written in patient's chart. Email, fax or call in any insurance referrals. Follow up phone call with referral number to specialist if requested. Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistant and MOA's as requested. Answers telephone and performs other clerical functions as necessary (screen calls according to urgency and need). Must train and maintain proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer program training as requested. Attends to exam and procedure rooms, including assurance that proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness. Order medications or clinical supplies for the department as requested. Administers prescribed injections/medications and records them on patient's chart. Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or follow‐up appointments, i.e. Blood work, x‐rays, and enter lab testing as requested. Basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.). Be able to read and review pathology results with patients. Setup and tear down sterile fields. Basic knowledge of surgical instruments. Prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures for the day. Assist surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and Operating Room if necessary. Maintain infection control measures including but not limited to proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave. Proficient with autoclave sterilization process. Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal. Assess signs and symptoms of infection and reporting to surgeon and/or provider. Hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse. Other Duties: As assigned as appropriate for LPN licensure. Attend new employee orientation and all mandatory events such as in‐services, classes, training as required by the organization. Complies with the dress code policy as set forth by Guthrie. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Patient Care- Provide competent technical and clinical services and flex daily needs based on CCHMC policy, best practice guidelines and department needs. Assist care providers with procedures and physical exams of patients. Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Provide care consistent with the family-centered care and medical home models. Provide flexible, culturally competent and responsive care to the needs of the patient and family. Treat families as full partners with decision making processes regarding their child's care, which includes offering information, services and support in a collaborative and respectful manner. Customer Service- Act as a customer advocate and strive to better meet the needs of, and to support, patients and/or families. Utilize a customer focus to complete assignments and/or interact with customers in a courteous, attentive and conscientious manner. Respond quickly to parent requests and concerns. Provide appropriate education/information to patients and/or families. Collaboration- Work collaboratively/cooperatively with others and follow complex direction to resolve problems and achieve goals. Develop positive working relationships with peers/colleagues and acknowledges others skills, experience, knowledge, creativity and contributions. Share knowledge and/or provide support for team members. Contribute to and promote a positive and professional work environment/atmosphere. Data Management- Manage records per department policy. Assist with collection of data for various forms. Obtain consent and release of information forms when indicated. Maintain patient files, records and other information. Demonstrate adherence to established documentation practices with accurate and detailed data entry and document management. Laboratory Work and Testing- May manage specimens per protocols. Maintain knowledge of all routine testing processes and retrieve test results. Communicate normal lab results as appropriately delegated. The Medical Assistant with the required training, education and demonstration of clinical competency, performs delegated clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a nurse or licensed physician.
