Performs a nurse-driven annual wellness visit to include: patient intake, chronic condition management, and cognitive testing. Performs administrative duties to coordinate patient care, including data collection, answering phones, scheduling tests/procedures and appointments, calling in prescriptions, determining insurance coverage, and billing and receiving payments. What You'll Do: Elicits questions, concerns, and information from the caller to assess symptoms, determine acuity, identify appropriate algorithm/protocol, and develop a treatment plan. Provides professional advice, education, and options based on assessment, established algorithm/protocol, and clinical judgment. When appropriate, dispatches appropriate discipline personnel or emergency response units. Provides referrals to healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate, including locations, hours, and contact information. Assists caller with scheduling appointments at referral sources when appropriate. Performs administrative duties to coordinate patient care, including data collection, answering phones, scheduling tests/procedures and appointments, calling in prescriptions and determining insurance coverage. Documents calls, responses, and referrals. Performs follow-up calls to evaluate effectiveness of care and need for additional care. About Our Pfw Nicu The purpose of the Newborn Center at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) is to provide the full spectrum of comprehensive care tending to the clinical and psychosocial needs of all neonates and their families. Texas Children’s Hospital NICU holds the distinct honor of being the first recognized Level IV NICU in The State of Texas and was recognized in 2024 as the #3 NICU in the country by US News. PFW NICU offers the highest possible level of specialized treatments as well as expert specialists for babies born prematurely and with unique health challenges. It is located on the 7th & 8th floor of the Pavilion for Women Tower and is a private room unit with a transition area. The private bed unit fosters teamwork and collaboration amongst the nurses. Babies admitted to this unit are born in the Pavilion for Women Labor and Delivery unit or may have transferred in from other facilities. A team of NICU-specialized nurses, providers, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, music therapists, care coordinators, and pharmacists come together to care for our patients and families. TCH PFW NICU RN’s will be responsible for caring for critically ill neonates and infants requiring complex care and the highest level of support. Our teams provide complex medical and surgical care to patients born at 22 weeks or greater with multiple diagnoses, including but not limited to respiratory distress requiring Bubble CPAP, NIPPV, High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation, and Jet Ventilation.
