It serves as an alternative to the Emergency Department for routine or urgent behavioral health needs and provides rapid‑access follow‑up appointments within seven days of psychiatric inpatient or ED discharge. BHUC delivers short‑term psychotherapy, psychiatric medication evaluation and management, and limited case management for patients at risk of behavioral health decompensation or substance use escalation. This structure expands access, reduces fragmentation, and better supports patients with complex behavioral health needs. All BHUC locations focus on stabilizing immediate concerns, connecting patients to long term treatment resources both within and outside OSUWMC. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of advanced practice providers, nurses, psychiatrists, addiction medicine physicians, independently licensed behavioral health therapists, and certified peer supporters.
