Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Position functions as a Medical Assistant in the department, prepares and maintains exam rooms, prepares charts, obtains reports and records; assists with patient flow and ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Patient Care Duties: Interacts directly with patients in clinic setting and completes clinical tasks, which may include obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing a phlebotomy and verifying medications. Completes necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner. Answers basic questions from patient/family regarding treatments, diagnosis and procedures. May complete requisitions/orders per WashU guidelines. Equipment and Supplies: Monitors supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies, equipment or garments are available and that they comply with regulations. Cleans and stocks exam rooms and sterilizes instruments. Other Functions: Maintains required HIPAA compliance, maintains skills/competencies and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education and cross-training programs according to established standards and WashU policies. Post Partum: The Postpartum unit is responsible for the post-delivery care of mothers and their infants, low risk antepartum and clean gyn surgeries. Staff on this unit are also responsible for maintaining the health of the mother and baby while monitoring any complications that arise during the postpartum period and ensure that mothers have a smooth transition from hospital to home. The NICU can care for very preterm, 28 weeks' gestation, to term infants that require additional support. The range of medical conditions include but are not limited to respiratory support, feeding assistance, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, glucose instability, and antibiotic therapy. NICU RNs attend all high-risk deliveries and assist with initial assessments as needed.
