Overview: As a Medical Assistant at Hometown Urgent Care, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare delivery by assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical and administrative tasks. Your contribution will be vital in ensuring the safety, welfare, and comfort of our patients. Duties: Responsible for taking patient history and obtain vital signs Perform basic testing or screenings such as: vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing. Perform necessary phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples. Accurately complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples. Able to perform subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and accurately complete paperwork according to policy for that procedure. Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels. Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities. Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave. Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients. Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA). Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager. Logs laboratory procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed. Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals; specialist’s referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient’s education. Maintains examination rooms, sterilization of equipment and stocks necessary medical supplies. Performs duties to ensure good patient flow. Registration duties: explain to patients' accepted insurances and those out of network and knowledgeable of all pricing. Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner. Travel to care centers within designated region Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information Cleans and stocks the site with other members of the team Training other team members. Additional job responsibilities may be assigned. 1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred. Provide compassionate, evidence-based care in a busy urgent care setting. Perform procedures within your scope of practice, including: Suturing Incision and drainage of abscesses Splinting Foreign body removal Apply age-appropriate techniques and comfort measures when treating pediatric patients. Read and interpret diagnostic studies, including X-rays and EKGs. Educate patients, families, and team members regarding care, treatment plans, and health management. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical documentation. Ensure appropriate communication and documentation to support quality patient care and reimbursement. Collaborate with physicians and other members of the center team to provide efficient, high-quality care. Participate in center meetings, operational activities, and professional development opportunities. Maintain required certifications and specialty training. Travel to other University Hospitals Urgent Care centers as needed to support business needs. Perform other duties as needed. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) license 5+ years of pediatric clinical experience preferred Active medical license in the state of practice or ability to obtain licensure Current DEA registration Current BLS and PALS certifications Strong clinical experience with pediatric patients Experience performing procedures such as suturing and incision/drainage Experience interpreting X-rays and EKGs Ability to meet University Hospitals Urgent Care credentialing requirements Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative clinical team Willingness to travel to other centers as needed The Ideal Candidate We’re looking for someone who brings more than clinical expertise.
