Overview: As a Medical Assistant at Hometown Urgent Care, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare delivery by assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical and administrative tasks. Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels. Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities. Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave. Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients. Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D’s and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA). Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager. Logs laboratory procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed. Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals; specialist’s referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient’s education. Maintains examination rooms, sterilization of equipment and stocks necessary medical supplies. Performs duties to ensure good patient flow. Registration duties: explain to patients' accepted insurances and those out of network and knowledgeable of all pricing. Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner. Travel to care centers within designated region Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information Cleans and stocks the site with other members of the team Training other team members. Maintains drug samples, logs, outdates and rotation of stock. Retrieves patient messages, routes to the physician and communicates physician orders back to the patient. Retrieve prescription refill requests from voicemail and call or fax approved prescription requests to pharmacy. Schedules new and return appointments, consultations and testing and procedures. Preparation of consults and referrals per insurance and other payer requirements. Performs pre-certifications and pre-authorizations with insurance companies for services and medications. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization, the staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care. Position Summary The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. Required Qualifications Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program required. Patients are typically more stable than those seen in the ED but still require timely evaluation and treatment. Referrals are coordinated directly through the patient’s oncology team, often based on real-time clinical concerns that need same-day attention. This approach helps reduce unnecessary ED visits and ensures rapid access to specialized care, supporting Ohio State’s commitment to exceptional outcomes and efficient care delivery. The unit’s smaller footprint fosters strong collaboration and a supportive team culture. Nurses develop a broad skillset while managing a range of oncology-related conditions and build meaningful relationships with patients throughout their treatment course.
