Responsibilities

The Surgical Tech prepares and assists surgical procedures during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative process.

Responsible for providing for and anticipating the surgeons’ needs during a procedure while maintaining the sterile field, adhering to principles of aseptic technique, and ensuring safety with all counted items.
Assists preparation for procedures by assisting with completion, wrapping, and processing of instruments in Sterile Processing.

Qualifications

Required:

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program

Certified Surgical Technologist

BLS certification (or obtained within 3 months of employment)

Preferred:

Minimum of one-year experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care hospital operating room

Pediatric and/or orthopaedic experience

Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting the RN and surgeon during operative procedures. Approximately three to six months of related experience, preferred, in order to learn sterile techniques, become familiar with anesthesia equipment and cleaning procedures, and learn inventory techniques. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with the surgical team and maintain effective contacts with physicians and hospital employees. Familiarity and manual dexterity required with all basic surgical instruments, supplies, equipment and procedures.
