School-Based Registered Nurse (RN) | Independence, Missouri

Step into a dynamic contract role supporting students’ health and well-being across PreK–12th grade. This opportunity is perfect for a Registered Nurse skilled in school nursing and seeking a variety of experiences, working with children and teens in a busy education setting near Independence, MO.

As the primary RN in the health room, you’ll float throughout the district, covering multiple sites in a week and offering essential care to students. From field trips to day-to-day health needs, each day brings new challenges. Be prepared for a fluid schedule; your week’s assignments are distributed every Sunday, with occasional day-of changes, so adaptability is essential.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active and unencumbered RN license in Missouri (verified through Nursys)
  • Previous pediatric experience—ICU, ER, or schools preferred (recent experience required)
  • Strong technology skills for electronic charting and multitasking
  • Comfortable working independently as the sole RN at a site after an initial two-week training period
  • Flexibility with shifting schedules and sites, working with a PreK–12 population
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, adaptable approach

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver general health services and emergency care to students and staff
  • Provide coverage across multiple district sites as needed, including potential field trip duty
  • Maintain meticulous electronic health records and coordinate care as situations arise
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the health room as the primary onsite RN
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families

The contract runs through May 22nd, with the possibility of extending through Extended School Year (ESY) from June 1st to 25th, Monday–Thursday. Weekly hours may range from 35–40 until the end of the regular school year, with 22–25 hours per week possible for ESY.
