RN SCHOOL NURSE- AS NEEDED

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Obtains and records initial assessments and provides prioritized school nursing care according to patient age, symptoms and psychological needs before/during and after school when involved in school activities. Assesses, identifies and monitors the health needs of the students and faculty.

Evaluates and re-assesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require interventions. Implements and documents timely interventions that are appropriate for patient needs. Evaluates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, re-evaluation, written documentation, observation and comparison to established standards.

Serves as a liaison between school, home, the community and other healthcare entities. Assists in the implementation and planning of school health policies and acts as a resource in matters pertaining to health curriculum planning. 

Collaborates with school administration, faculty and staff and the local health department in planning and organizing the school health programs; maintaining current mandated and non-mandated health programs.

Implements all screening programs mandated by Indiana law and maintains all necessary school health records.

Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department's customers as requested including but not limited to effective and consistent communication and the documentation of accurate and timely information. Maintains nursing equipment and area, including scheduled, preventative maintenance, according to necessary guidelines.  

Independently performs quality control/customer satisfaction procedures, documents results, and investigates and resolves issues, with appropriate supervisory notification of activity. Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs as requested.

Evaluates current practices and makes appropriate suggestions to improve productivity and to enhance expense reduction; assists in the evaluation of new procedures and equipment; monitors the purchasing of supplies and inventory control.

Provides technical guidance for customers as it relates to school nursing procedures and operations.

Attends meetings inside and outside of the school and hospital as designated. Participates in professional activities and continuing education to maintain professional expertise.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Performs additional related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse required. Requires BSN and 1 year of nursing experience in a school setting, or an ASN and 3 years of nursing experience in a school setting. Must maintain current BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers certification.
