Job Description
Under the supervision of the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals (BCH) Nurse Manager, the Clinical Nurse II – Practice Nurse in the Pediatric Treatment Center provides direct and indirect clinical care to pediatric outpatients with a variety of hematologic disorders. Care is delivered through the systematic application of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation), with all components individualized to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and developmental needs of each patient. The nurse performs ongoing assessments, modifies care plans as needed, and ensures continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, home care, and multidisciplinary provider settings.
The Pediatric Hematology Nurse is actively involved in patient, staff, and provider education and participates in clinical research activities, incorporating evidence-based findings into care planning and implementation. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams, carrying out established nursing procedures and related duties as required. Provides care for patients with complex needs under appropriate guidance and assists in the management of care delivered by other members of the healthcare team.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent pediatric RN experience, including at least one (1) year of ambulatory experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of Hematology/Oncology experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills required to successfully perform the duties of the position
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to communicate calmly and effectively in complex situations
- Proficiency in navigating and documenting within multiple electronic systems
- Flexibility to orient and work across all UCSF Medical Center locations
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
- Current healthcare provider CPR certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required for applicable units)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (required for applicable units)
- APHON or ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider certification (required for applicable units)
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately triage Hematology patients via telephone and in person
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
