Bronson Battle Creek Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to join their team of five physicians and six midwives. The practice is looking to employ a full-time midwife to cover inpatient call and clinic in the outpatient setting. This will be a hospital employed position working in Battle Creek only.

Master's degree (MSN or MS in Nursing) preferred with a minimum of 2 years of recent clinical experience related to area of practice. Previous teaching experience preferred. BSN with midwifery certificate will be considered. Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse in specialty area of practice (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan). Maintenance of Basic Life Support (BCLS) Certification Maintenance of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification • Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with documentation and record keeping in the department. • Effective interpersonal relationship and communication skills that are applied to multiple group interactions. • Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary groups. • Communicates clearly and efficiently both verbally and in writing Practitioner • Demonstrates expertise in performing comprehensive assessments utilizing expert knowledge base and experience to identify and manage and meet the needs of high-risk, complex patients. • Identifies assessment, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic interventions within the plan that reflect current evidence, including data, research literature, and expert clinical knowledge. • Includes the synthesis of patients’ values and beliefs regarding nursing and medical therapies. • Identifies patient/family/community health care and education needs and collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of teaching programs and materials that is appropriate to the patient’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness to learn and cultural values and beliefs. • Provides physical care to patients as necessary to meet patient care outcomes or education needs of staff. • Identifies expected outcomes that incorporate cost and clinical effectiveness, patient satisfaction and continuity and consistency among providers. • Collaborates with physicians, nursing personnel and other health care professionals to identify expected outcomes that incorporate scientific evidence and are achievable through implementation of evidenced-based practice. Informs the patient of the risks, benefits and outcomes of healthcare regimens. • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. • Uses prescriptive authority, procedures, referrals, treatments, and therapies in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. • Provides patients with information about intended effects and potential adverse effects of proposed prescriptive therapies along with information regarding cost, alternative treatments and procedures, as appropriate. Consultant • Shares expertise, particularly for complex patients, through the consultative process with all members of the health care team and provide recommendations that facilitate change. • Synthesizes data, information, theoretical frameworks and evidence when providing consultation. • Provides consultation to administrative, supervisory, and other health care staff in area of expertise to address health care issues. • Assures that healthcare team efficiency and preferences are consistently addressed in implementing a multidisciplinary plan of care that involves the patient in decision-making and negotiating role responsibilities. • Develops standards of care (via policies, procedures, protocols) to address the needs of focused patient populations utilizing evaluation analysis to recommend process or structural changes. Educator • Acts as educational resource to nursing staff in utilization of clinical paths, effective care planning collaborating with others in identifying discharge planning, and evaluating health information resources, such as the Internet, within the area of practice for accuracy, readability, and comprehensibility to help patients access quality health information. • Improves clinical skills and abilities and application of scientific knowledge for various levels of health care providers. • Uses principles and skills of teaching and learning in clinical practice to instruct patients/families, colleagues, and community about health, health problems, and health care issues. • Participates in interdisciplinary teams that address ethical risks, benefits and outcomes. Leadership • Evaluates the adequacy, accessibility, and availability of nursing and other healthcare services to the patient. • In collaboration with others, implement changes that enhance both quality of care and healthcare team functions. • Designs, organizes, and evaluates systems of health care, community support and environment using principles of continuous improvements and cost/benefit analysis. • Consistently guides staff in professional development by acting as a mentor and supports the use of clinical guidelines linked to positive patient outcomes. • Coordinates system and community resources that enhance delivery of care across continuums. • Mentors other registered nurses and colleagues as appropriate. • Participates with interdisciplinary teams that contribute to role development and advanced nursing practice and health care and that address ethical risks, benefits, and outcomes. • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to insure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior. Research • Uses and disseminates current and relevant nursing research to identify and investigate clinical nursing problems and to improve nursing practice and patient care. • Participates in planning, implementing and/or evaluating nursing research studies. • Assists in researching and developing standards of practice, policies and procedures, and quality assurance procedures. • Contributes to nursing knowledge by conducting or synthesizing research that discovers, examines, and evaluates knowledge, theories, criteria, and creative approaches to improve healthcare practice. • Formally disseminates research finding through activities, such as, presentations, publications, consultation, and journal clubs. Professional Development • Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statues, rules and regulations. • Engages in a formal process seeking feedback regarding own practice from patients, peers, professional colleagues and others. • Obtains and maintains professional certification, if available, in area of expertise. • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading, related seminars, conferences and other resources. • Contributes to a positive work climate and team participation.
