Job Function Summary:
Involves the provision of integrated and accessible primary and specialty patient care services in a clinic or center environment. Care is provided by clinicians and assistants who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs and developing a sustainable partnership with patients. Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in healthcare clinics or centers. Promotes shared decision-making at all levels to ensure a shared voice in practices, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved patient services. Management levels may also be responsible for clinic operations. (Note, when primary focus is clinical operations, see Ambulatory Administration job function.)
This Nursing Leadership role oversees pediatric patient care and workflows for a variety of surgical specialties programs including: dermatology, general surgery, gastroenterology, urology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, OHNS. The Nurse leader manages the delivery of ambulatory patient care, which typically includes nursing, and may include laboratory, radiology, dental, etc. Facilitates the flow of patient care activities; may also participate in practice or center management operations. They are part of an outpatient nursing management team that supports pediatric patients and their families for both clinic visits, care coordination and procedures throughout BCH .
Department Overview
UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals (BCH) Ambulatory Services provides approximately 450,000 outpatient clinic visits annually, with activity spanning over 20 unique sites of care across the 9-County Bay Area and beyond, and with clinical services spanning primary care, medical specialties and surgical specialties. BCH Ambulatory Services comprises practices with faculty from many different academic departments across the UCSF School of Medicine including pediatrics, neurology, surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, urology, ophthalmology and neurosurgery. To improve access to service in the community and remain competitive in the Bay Area regional marketplace, BCH Ambulatory Services is expanding into both affiliate and satellite locations which will entail different models of activation and clinical oversite. This position plays a leadership role in ensuring alignment with clinical services and workflows so there is consistency across the BCH Ambulatory enterprise. This position is 100% on-site and must be able to travel to multiple locations, such as San Francisco and Oakland.

25 Yes Manages the patient care delivery system to assure quality care, patient safety, standard work and compliance with internal policy, external regulations, and accepted practices across the continuum of care. Allocates environmental, technical, and staffing resources. May also manage the fiscal and administrative operations.
5 No Represents assigned clinics or centers on task forces or committees. Participates to develop new programs, review technology improvements, design quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives, etc.
10 Yes Develops staff in collaborative decision making and shared governance to ensure a shared voice in clinical care practice, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved clinical and patient care outcomes.
5 Yes Manages patient care in a cost-effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization. Plans and is accountable for the annual operative and capital budget for areas of responsibility.
10 Yes Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline and staff development. Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives. Works with clinical educators and leadership to evaluate core competencies in nursing and other clinical care for unit.
5 Yes Works collaboratively with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level. Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, and employee safety and risk management issues.
5 Yes Keeps abreast of and implements new or changing patient care standards of practice, scope of practice, competency development and assessment, policies and procedures, and new programs. Collaborates with physicians and develops proposals for improvements to clinic services, policies, or procedures.
5 No Collaborates and provides input, on marketing, facilities, and fiscal planning. Drafts business plans to introduce quality improvements to clinical service delivery in accordance with best practices.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Three to five years of clinical nursing experience
- Two to three years of progressive supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Strong clinic / center patient care management skills
- Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology
- Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services
- Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
- Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines
- Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives
- Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
- Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently
- Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry
- Active RN license in the State of California
