Job Description
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed tertiary and quaternary medical/surgical intensive care unit that cares for critically ill neonates through adolescents. The majority of PICU patients arrive through our in-house, nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care that can only be provided at UCSF Medical Center.
These patients receive care for a variety of life-threatening medical and surgical conditions. Nurses on this unit learn the skills necessary to maintain vital functions for these fragile children, while supporting their families through difficult times.
The PICU Registered Nurse will coordinate patient care in collaboration with physicians, PICU CNS, Respiratory Therapists, Child Life, Social Work, Nutrition and Discharge Case Managers.
Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Two years recent high acuity Pediatric Critical Care (PICU or PCICU) nursing experience
- The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
- Two years recent inpatient clinical RN experience in a medical surgical PICU
- CCRN
- BSN
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association BLS Certification
- Active American Heart Association PALS Certification (within 6 months if transferring from an Adult Critical Care area)
