
CNA, CMA, or PCT - Student Health & Wellness Center
The University of Virginia's number one ranked Department of Student Health and Wellness provides a comprehensive range of medical, mental health, well-being, and disability support services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. UVA Medical Services, a unit within the Department of Student Health and Wellness, is seeking a CNA, CMA, or PCT to join our team. This position will assist with caring for patients and will be part of a team that establishes priorities by collaborating with other team members. This position will follow protocols for obtaining vital signs and performing simple procedures and receives formal supervision from the Nursing Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing patients for appointments (obtaining vital signs and entering into EMR)
- Maintaining clinic flow
- Assisting staff with procedures (EKGs, ear irrigations, collecting lab specimens)
- Ensuring patient safety
- Maintaining infection control standards
- Preparing patients for discharge and home care (crutches, patient teaching, follow-up appointments, transportation)
- Maintaining unit supplies and equipment
- Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is a full-time position with expectations of 40 hours per week during normal business operations which are approximately 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday. Based on University Policy HRM-030: UVA students enrolled full-time (i.e., 12 credit hours or more) must apply for University employment through University Career Services (Handshake). Part-time University students may apply for employment through the applicable HRMS. Student employees may not be employed for more than 20 hours per week while school is officially in session.
All candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification. No prior experience is required; however, one year of professional experience as a CNA, CMA, or PCT is preferred. Candidates will be considered for the role that aligns with their qualifications:
Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
- Must have completed a state-approved Nurse Aide education program or have completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course as a student nurse.
- Obtains Certification as Nurse Aide (CNA) in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 4 months of hire or is a student nurse who has successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
Anticipated salary range will be $19-23 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
Anticipated salary range will be $21-25 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
Patient Care Technician (PCT)
*Must have one of the following*
- Certified Nursing Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Emergency Medical Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Military Corpsmen/Medic (Combat Medic Specialist /Tactical Combat Casualty Care /Tactical Paramedic) NREMT certification or Tactical Responder Certification
- LPN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Graduate of a certified nursing program
- Patient Care Technician Certification, preferred National Center of Competency Testing
- Currently enrolled student nurses who have successfully completed the Clinical Experience and Didactic
- Non-Certified team members hired prior to May 11, 2026, certification is not required, as relevant experience will be accepted in its place.
Anticipated salary range will be $19-23 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires frequent bending and stooping; proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
