Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting under the supervision of an assigned Preceptor in a Registered Nurse role.
  • Adheres to infection prevention and control standards, including appropriate use of PPE, hand hygiene, and isolation precautions.
  • Collaborates with the assigned Registered Nurse, assesses patient's needs, and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based on patient’s needs and responses. Evaluates the patient's progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
  • Promotes an inclusive and culturally sensitive environment by respecting diverse backgrounds, identities, and perspectives of patients, families, and team members.
  • Communicates any patient and family advocacy issues with the assigned Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served in their assigned unit/department.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team under the guidance of the assigned Registered Nurse.
  • Recognizes and escalates patient safety concerns, changes in condition, or urgent clinical needs to the Registered Nurse in a timely manner.
  • Functions effectively as a member of the care team, demonstrating understanding of roles, responsibilities, and appropriate delegation within scope for a defined group of patients.
  • Makes decisions and demonstrates behaviors associated with the 4 C's: Connection, Curiosity, Communication and Commitment.
  • Continues to expand knowledge during externship related to the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age- specific needs.
  • Documents patient care accurately and timely in the EMR under the supervision of and with the co-signature of a Registered Nurse. This includes, but is not limited to, patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and ensuring patient safety.
  • Demonstrates expanded competency during externship in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills.
  • Progressively assumes increased responsibility for a defined patient assignment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and prioritization skills in managing patient care continuously in accordance with Evidence- Based Practice Standards of care.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Applies developing clinical judgment to recognize changes in patient condition and appropriately escalate concerns.
  • Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Completed junior year of nursing school or equivalent by the start of the program.
  • Successful completion of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.
  • None No professional nursing experience required.
  • Prior direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., CNA, PCT, MA, EMT, or similar role) preferred.
  • Exposure to acute care or hospital-based clinical environments preferred.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
