JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists physician/provider by rooming patients and documenting signs/symptoms, vital signs and BMI, reviews and documents medical, surgical, and family histories, medications and any other pertinent information the provider needs to make an informed decision regarding the patient’s care and plan of treatment. Performs set-up for procedures and assists provider with procedures. Performs dressing changes, suture/staple removal, cast removal, DME fittings, prepares injections and obtains prior authorizations for medication. Fields phone calls from patients regarding medical questions, test results, medication refills etc. and communicates effectively with the respective provider regarding the issue and documents appropriately. Faxes and electronically transmits prescription refills to pharmacies as requested by the patient and authorized by the provider. Schedules tests and procedures and obtains prior authorizations for those tests and procedures. Communicates effectively with the operating room staff when scheduling procedures and communicates with other departments regarding tests that are scheduled in that department.
