Responsibilities Position Overview: The Primary Clinical Specialist is responsible for making patients feel comfortable during the visit, directing patients while in the clinic, and performing initial assessment and intake of information including, but not limited to, past surgical, medical, family and social history, taking and recording patient vital signs, and interviewing patient to fully understand the reason for the visit. Detailed responsibilities: * PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols * RELATED WORK - Perform related duties and responsibilities as required * PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes * CASHIER - Perform basic cashiering duties; collect monies for various activities; close and balance cash register * PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk * PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner * PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" * PATIENT CARE - Assist in preparation of patient care to include the admission, transfer and discharge process; phone in prescriptions; assist the provider with a variety of treatment procedures as requested to include setting up sterile fields and chaperoning * PATIENT CARE - Perform routine non-invasive treatment procedures to include saturation, administration and urine dipsticks; may perform invasive procedures to include but not limited to phlebotomy, ear irrigation, catheterization, and EKG's * PATIENT CARE - Perform basic patient initial screening; intakes and records vital signs; records chief complaints; patient data collection; report any changes in condition or behavior of patients to appropriate personnel * DATA - Enter various data into computer and forms; verify data, make corrections and ensure accuracy; schedule patient appointments; answer and direct phone calls as requested; take and relay messages to providers * ENVIRONMENT - Maintain a sanitary work area to include patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; report equipment problems; order and stock supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels * CUSTOMER SERVICE - Provide and ensure quality service and customer satisfaction * MEDICATION - Administer medication, including Parenteral (IM, SQ, ID); Oral Drops, Eye Drops, and Oral via Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings (After completion of UNMH MA Medication Administration course) * PATIENT CENTERED MED - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable Qualifications Education: Essential: * High School or GED Equivalent * Program Graduate * Course Education specialization: Essential: * MA accred pgm graduate or 2 yrs MA experience on DD Form 214 * UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course Completion w/in 90 Days Experience: Essential: No minimum experience required Nonessential: Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo 2 years directly related experience Credentials: Essential: * CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days * CMA, RMA, AMT, AAMA, NRCMA, CCMA, etc Physical Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Essential Functions Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Conduct patient registration, which includes securing required paperwork and insurance documentation, and verification of insurance and patient eligibility. Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments for assigned center. Coordinate provider referrals to assigned Specialist. Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, which includes conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirm purpose of visit; Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider as needed. Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to provider. Responsible for stocking supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have medical supplies needed. Responsible for completing order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels; regularly check expiration dates on supplies. Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence Ensure reception is well maintained Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up. Perform opening and closing duties, which includes cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
