Unit Bio R6 is a dynamic 24-bed neurosurgical / trauma unit with an embedded 9-bed neuro-focused Intermediate Care Unit (IMC). Bean 2 is a 12-bed Total Joint Center. This position offers the R6/B2 CNA an opportunity to care for a diverse patient population in a supportive environment as an integral member of a collaborative team of highly trained staff. The R6 patient population includes adults and older adolescents with neurological and orthopedic conditions including closed head injuries, strokes, brain tumors, seizure disorders, multi-traumas, and conditions requiring neurosurgical intervention. In R6 IMC, closer observation, collaboration, and teamwork amongst the RNs and CNAs is required to support care needs of these higher acuity patients. The Bean 2 patient population consists of adults who have undergone joint replacement surgeries, and this unit serves as the Joint Center for our nationally recognized and Joint Commission accredited joint replacement program. This fast-paced unit consistently receives exceptional patient satisfaction scores. R6/IMC/B2 offers a challenging yet rewarding environment where teamwork, excellent communication, a positive attitude, and a proactive approach to provision of care is expected. As a teaching unit with frequent student rotations, this collaborative learning environment welcomes new CNAs and other learners excited to be part of this supportive team. The compassionate Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and CNAs on R6/IMC/B2 work closely to support each other in meeting patients’ needs and ensuring the highest standards of care are met. Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant – Acute Care role assists in the administration of nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Count and sign on approved form, all narcotics with approved personnel before accepting medication keys. Contact a supervisor immediately with discrepancies. Order all necessary medication and treatments from appropriate pharmacy or notify responsible party when supply is no less than 7 days. Notify supervisor when supply is less than 2 days and medicine hasn’t been received. Responsible for receiving and verifying all medicine received is accurate according to pharmacy label and MAR. Notifies pharmacy and DH&W of any discrepancies. Responsible for proper storage of all medications and ensuring all lotions, ointments and liquids stored separately from oral medications. Responsible for dating all appropriate vials or bottles at time of initial opening and following pharmacy protocol on length of time they can be used. Responsible for weekly inspections of all medications to ensure all expired medications are removed. Responsible for verifying all current MARs are compared to new MARs at change over time and notifying the supervisor of any discrepancies. Responsible for removing all discontinued medication from med cart and giving it to the supervisor.
