Description Maine Medical Center Management/Leadership Req #: 76791 Seeking an experienced nurse leader to oversee a 21-bed Inpatient Medical Psychiatry unit caring for a medically complex patient population, with a strong focus on Geriatric Psychiatry. This role requires clinical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to manage a team in a dynamic environment where patients present with both significant psychiatric needs and medical comorbidities. Ideal candidates bring prior leadership experience, a collaborative approach, and a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This Director, supported by a unit-based Nurse Manager, will lead a team of approximately 80 FTEs within a highly specialized inpatient unit providing care for patients with Medical and Behavioral Health diagnoses. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in behavioral health, demonstrated leadership experience, and a solid understanding of regulatory expectations for behavioral health patient populations. Summary The Nurse Director is the vital link between the mission and vision of Maine Medical Center and the delivery of safe patient and family centered care that is compassionate, evidence-based, and provides highest quality care. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs) Education: Requires Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master's preferred. License/Certifications: Requires current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine. Experience: Requires clinical expertise in direct patient care as normally acquired through approximately five years experience as a staff nurse and/or nurse manager. Requires interpersonal and management skills and knowledge of employee relation laws as normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, in order to deal with complex management problems and communicate with unit personnel, physicians, administrative personnel, a variety of other hospital personnel, and community persons. Requires a high level of critical thinking and analytical skills to make management decisions at unit level and make recommendations for consideration on departmental issues. Requires the ability to integrate the knowledge of teaching principles and counseling techniques in order to direct the growth of the unit staff. Requires a high level of organization skills, effective time management and delegation strategies that include the ability to rapidly prioritize and adjust work flow according to changing unit needs. SUPERVISION • Supervises: All licensed staff, Certified and non-certified Nursing Assistants and Restorative Nursing Assistants • Is alert to efficient functioning of nursing department with other facility departments. • Periodically makes nursing rounds. • Assure that nursing personnel are providing adequate nursing care in accordance with established nursing service procedure. • Follow up on correction of findings and deficiencies of Department of Health Services, Consultants, and Quality Assurance Team. • Review and evaluate nursing personnel and make recommendations to the Director of Nurses. • Assist in orientation of newly assigned personnel as well as supervise and instruct other nursing personnel. • Assist in supervision and direction of nursing personnel. • Assist in investigation of unusual occurrence or alleged abuse and promptly notify the Director of Nurses. Schedule and conduct new resident orientation for all Assisted Living Residents. Provide, plan, schedule, and monitor staff training programs and in-services for the Assisted Living staff including statutory or regulatory required training. Attend all required training, in-service, and staff meetings. Manage and coordinate the work of all nursing and other assisted living staff, communicating pertinent resident health and safety information. This includes overseeing and/or completing staff schedules monthly and daily assignments. Strive to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices. Ensure compliance with all state regulatory requirements including mandatory reporting to State. Ensure that all concern and incident reports are completed, filed and that follow-up is conducted appropriately. Assist and/or perform in mock surveys. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers while adhering to all policies, standards and procedures of Company. Require 24/7 on-call clinical support. Perform other duties as assigned. Annual Salary: $123K. Qualifications Managed a clinical team in a senior living or hospital setting. RN license required. Must maintain CEU and other state requirements for the position. Able to manage multiple high-level tasks such as scheduling staff; scheduling care conferences and maintaining communication with staff and families in a professional, positive manner. Managed and developed complex teams. Experience with EMR/EHR clinical documentation systems. Exude energy, passion with a hospitality-focused mindset. A passion for serving seniors and growing teams. Always maintain a positive and friendly demeanor toward the residents and your co-workers. Technology savvy and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Self-awareness organized and time management skills. Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
