Assists with emergency care by participating in crash cart checks, providing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and responding to Code Blue. Handles the personal property of the patient with great care. Personal appearance shall reflect a well groomed, professional appearance as outlined in HR.107, Professional Appearance Guidelines. Watches with timing capabilities, i.e. seconds hand or stopwatch, are required uniform components. Maintains a clean, safe, and neat patient environment. Documents all care provided in the EMR as soon after the care occurs as possible. Teaches the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques as appropriate. Provides medication, diet and other instructions as ordered by the physician and recognizes and utilizes opportunities for health counseling with patients and families/caregivers. Works in concert with the interdisciplinary group. 7. Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient. 8. Assists the patient and family/caregiver and other team members in providing continuity of care. 9. Works in cooperation with the family/caregiver and hospice interdisciplinary group to meet the emotional needs of the patient and family/caregiver. 10. Attends interdisciplinary group meetings. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing 2. Registered Nurse, with a License in good standing to practice. 3. Registered nurses shall have a minimum of (a) one (1) year of experience as a professional nurse within the last three (3) years; OR have a baccalaureate degree in nursing and minimum of two (2) years’ experience, at least one of which is in the area of public health, home care, or hospice nursing is preferred. 4. Management experience not required. Responsible for supervising hospice aides. 5. Duties and responsibilities may include and not be limited to: Performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight Providing wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas Administering medication, including injections of medications and monitoring reaction to meds Maintaining medical records, including entering information into our electronic health record, TechCare Observing patient health and mental health status Providing emergency first aid Providing patient education and discharge/release planning Schedule hours: 11:00am-11:30pm Qualifications Experience / Requirements / Qualifications Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program High school diploma or equivalent (GED) Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required) Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening Physical Capabilities: Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago Job Description General Summary: The Medical Assistant is responsible for daily clinical work in the outpatient/primary care setting in accordance with the Ambulatory Medical Assistant Scope of Practice. Essential Job Functions: • Depending on location, performs phlebotomy and specimen processing as directed by delegating provider. • Administers, including but not limited to, intramuscular injections, subcutaneous injections, intradermal skin testing, topical medications, ophthalmic drops and nasal spray. • Depending on location, performs ECGs, places Holter monitors and downloads telemetry data. • Works in conjunction with other staff to maximize clinic flow. • Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations. • Documents data and changes in the Electronic Medical Record. • Provides assistance and or back up support for administrative tasks including but not limited to scheduling patient visits and performing basic “check-in, check out” activities. • Obtains measurements, patient history and other intake activities. • Stocks and maintains the clinic area including ordering of supplies as needed. • Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role. • Depending on location, directs High Level Disinfection scope cleaning in accordance with defined HLD processes. • Completes trainings and education including but not limited to Healthcare Provider CPR. • Other job functions as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • High school diploma required. • Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program. • Possesses 0 – 3 years of relevant clinical experience. • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred but not required. • Some college, preferred. • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. • Excellent communication/listening skills. Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel.
