Job Description Responsible for general nursing activities in the operating room. In its entirety, the perioperative nurse is the registered nurse who, using the nursing process, designs, coordinates, and delivers care to meet the identified needs of patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised because they are having operative or other invasive procedures. Establishes, ensures, and supervises surgical team members and procedures to maintain quality services and efficient operations. Promotes and restores patient’s health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families. Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; and following hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; and calling for assistance from health care support personnel. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations. Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting as per policy and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs utilizing SBAR while maintaining patient confidentiality. Ensures proper function and operation of equipment following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; call appropriate personnel for repairs; and evaluate new equipment as necessary. Ensure case readiness by confirming that supplies, equipment, instruments, and implants are available as per surgical procedure and doctor preferences. Ensure fiscal responsibility of the organization by accurately documenting/charging for supplies. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and organization and unit mandates. Achieves and maintained professional certification as required. Contributes to team efforts and high quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. Promoting all PRIDE values. Prepare residents for each meal and transport to dining room (unless resident on bed rest) making sure that food tray is accessible, self-help devices are available (if needed), and assistance is provided to those residents who cannot feed themselves. Keep an accurate record of food intake and output, as directed. Assist nursing staff with the basics of aseptic and sterile techniques to avoid infection of residents and self-contamination of equipment and supplies. Be alert for proper ventilation, temperature, light and noise control. Take TPR, blood pressure, weighing of residents, etc. as directed. Promptly answer call lights and other resident needs. Utilize proper body mechanics when lifting or transporting residents. Assist in the orientation and training of other staff, as requested. Attend in-service education programs in order to meet facility educational requirements. Provides assistance in toileting; positioning and transfer activities, frequent turning and positioning of a bed bound resident/patient. Assists with the prescribed exercise and ROM activities which the resident/patient and Hospice aide have been taught by the Hospice Nurse. Assists with light housekeeping of individual's personal unit or room, including changing of bed linen, if needed and patient laundry. Feeds and assists with meals. Obtains temperature, pulse and respirations as supervised by the Hospice Nurse. Reports any changes in resident's/patient's condition to the Hospice Nurse and, if in a facility, to the facility nurse and documents the information on the Home Health Aide Certification of House form, including the date and time of the report and the person receiving the information. Assists or reminds the patient to take medication, in compliance with regulations of appropriate regulatory and accrediting bodies. The work of the On-Call Hospice RN provides considerable consideration for independent assessment and judgement in crisis situations, utilizing and consulting with the Hospice Medical Director and administrator on call as indicated. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES : Consistent availability by telephone and email during assigned shifts. Conducts urgent physical and psychosocial assessments of the patient and family during after hours and determines appropriate interventions. Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient. Chart nurses’ notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the customer, as well as the customer’s response to the care. Complete required assessments upon the customer’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge. Receive telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physicians’ Order Form and P.O.S. Record new/changed diet orders. Forward information to the Dietary Department. Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with our established Charting and Documentation Policies and Procedures. Responsible for completion of admission, discharge, and transfer processes. Prepare and administer medications and treatments if appropriate as ordered by the physician. Review medication record for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician’s order, and adherence to stop order policies. Administer professional services such as: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, care of the dead/dying, etc., as required. Participate in the orientation of new customers/family members to the facility. Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician. Notify the customer’s attending physician and family when there is a change in the customer’s conditions. Obtain sputum, urine and other lab tests as ordered. Take and record TPR’s, blood pressures, accuchecks, etc., as necessary. Contact the customer’s physician for: Nursing assessment of change of condition. Medication orders or charges. To inform of incidents. To report abnormal results of Lab and X-ray. Anything else pertinent to the customers’ care and well-being.
