Job Description We are searching for Staff Nurses for our NICU 4 Team! We are looking for someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. About Our Nicu 4 The purpose of the Newborn Center at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) is to provide the full spectrum of comprehensive care tending to the clinical and psychosocial needs of all neonates and their families. Texas Children’s Hospital NICU holds the distinct honor to be the first recognized Level IV NICU in The State of Texas and recognized in 2022 and 2024 as the #3 NICU in the country by US News. NICU IV offers the highest possible level of specialized treatments as well as expert specialists for babies born prematurely or with unique health challenges. It is located on the 4th floor of the West Tower and is an open pod unit with a few private isolation rooms. The open pod unit fosters teamwork and collaboration amongst the nurses. Babies admitted to this unit may have been born at the Pavilion for Women, transferred in from other departments in our hospital, or from hospitals across Texas and beyond. A team of NICU-specialized nurses, providers, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, music therapists, care coordinators, and pharmacists come together to care for our patients and families. TCH NICU IV RN’s will be responsible for caring for critically ill neonates and infants requiring complex care and the highest level of support. Our teams provide complex medical and surgical care to patients with multiple diagnoses, including but not limited to respiratory distress, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, pulmonary hypertension, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, gastroschisis, omphalocele, necrotizing enterocolitis, congenital heart disease, and other congenital anomalies such as conjoined twins. Specialty populations include post-operative patients recovering from arm/leg fractures, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, and urology procedures. This multidisciplinary team—including nurses, attendings, social workers, case managers, respiratory therapists, and Child Life specialists—partners on care management, nursing interventions, and discharge planning. The patient to RN ratio is typically 4:1. A Clinical Nurse in the Seasonal Staffing Program performs Nursing duties, as assigned, throughout certain times of the year in which CHOP's operational needs require additional Nursing staff due to high volumes and acuity ("Concentrated Period"), and flex down to no, or limited, scheduled shifts during other times of the year ("Quiet Period"). Although the Concentrated and Quiet Periods will depend upon operational need, the anticipated Concentrated Period will be from September through May, with a Quiet Period from June through August.
