Responsibilities The Patient Throughput Coordinator will work with multiple entities to find and surmount the barriers to discharge of patient. This position acts as the designated liaison who facilitates and coordinates the transfer of patients into and within University Hospital. Works with referring agencies, hospitals, clinics, and the emergency department to ensure safe, timely transition of patients and clinically manages patient movement between units from the PACU, Emergency Department, outpatient clinics, procedural clinics and pre-admits for all service lines. Works with many support services, care areas and administrators to ensure clinically safe patient care, capacity management and efficient patient flow withing the University Hospital, all in accordance with Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) guidelines. Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse (Critical Care Transport) position is to provide and direct the critical care treatment and transport of patients in the hospital setting to the most appropriate facility. Provides pre-hospital Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS, ALS) and hospital patient care. Participates in the orientation of new staff residents and families to the unit. Carries out restorative and rehabilitative programs including teaching resident to wash/feed/dress self as appropriate. Ensures that the facility policy on the use of restraints is followed and that documentation is timely and accurate. Ensure that the unit is kept clean free from clutter and that the supply room door is kept locked; request the supervisor’s intervention as necessary to achieve this. Follows infection control standards and ensures that assigned personnel do likewise. Keep abreast of new nursing policies and procedures. Keep nurses notes, plan of care and all other documentation pertaining to your assigned resident timely accurate and complete. Participate in community outreach, education, and awareness initiatives related to cancer prevention and treatment. Function as a clinical expert within an assigned disease-specific area of focus. Coordinate and facilitate tumor board activities for the designated cancer specialty. Provide direct clinical care and support to the assigned patient population as needed. Monitor, collect, and analyze navigation metrics and quality indicators to support program evaluation and improvement. Prepare reports for the Cancer Committee and assist with accreditation and regulatory requirements. Lead and actively contribute to committees, quality improvement initiatives, and organizational projects related to oncology services. Promote evidence-based practices and continuous quality improvement in cancer care delivery. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience required, preferably in oncology and/or the assigned disease specialty. Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Oncology Nursing Certification required or must be obtained within 24 months of employment and maintained throughout employment. Knowledge of the healthcare system, cancer care, community resources, and social service resources for cancer patients required. Strong leadership, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to work independently in a self-directed environment and effectively lead and collaborate with teams. Demonstrated empathy and a service-oriented approach when engaging with patients, families, and community groups. Ability to exercise independent judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all situations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required. Ability to work flexible hours. Bilingual language proficiency preferred. Additional years of nursing experience and/or Nurse Navigator experience may be substituted for degree requirements on a year-for-year basis. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Additional Strongly Preferred Qualifications: Breast Nurse Navigation certification is strongly preferred. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position is to skillfully administer total patient care in accordance with Emergency Nursing Standards of Practice, provides leadership and clinical expertise in the assessing, planning and delivery of emergency care. Provides specialized primary nursing care for acutely ill and injured trauma cases in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures. Qualifications Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Critical Care or Medical/Surgical experience preferred. BLS required. Must maintain valid certification by the American Heart Association in basic life support (BLS). ACLS and PALS required within twelve (12) months of employment and must maintained throughout employment. Phlebotomy Certification or IV Certification is required. Proficiency in the English language is required. BSN preferred. Successful completion of a Progressive Care Course or Progressive Care Certification preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word. Ability to employ problem solving techniques and critical thinking. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to organize care/activities of multiple patients.
