Job Summary Follows the nursing process for patients admitted to same day surgery for endoscopy, OR, IV therapy, minor surgery, or IR procedures; communicates with surgeon, endoscopist, interventional radiologist, anesthesia care provider, any other physician or PA; provides report to OR RN, endoscopy nurse, or IR nurse and anesthesia care provider about patient’s relevant patient medical/surgical history and medication allergies; assists patient recovery in Phase 2; accurately documents and charges patient; includes family in patient care and education when possible. Maintaining personal contact with patients and relatives, being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity and privacy and ensuring a friendly environment at all times. Maintaining timely and accurate nursing records and ensuring that confidentiality is respected. Storing, checking and administering drugs in accordance with established standards and guidelines Working with minimal supervision during endoscopic procedures, admission and recovery of patients and other related procedures Contributing to the local resolution, investigation and follow up action of any informal or formal complaints. Participating in the care and maintenance of endoscopes and other specialized equipment, ensuring an agreed standard of decontamination at all times including accurate records of traceability of all endoscopes and associated equipment. Ensuring the safe discharge of all patients from the Endoscopy unit. Applies abdominal “T” binders, hot water bottles, aqua “K” pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses to patients as directed. Assists patients in collecting urine and stool specimens. Observes and records patients’ quantitative food and fluid intake and waste output. Takes temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and respiration rate. Gives therapeutic baths such as sitz and fever sponge baths. Measures and records height and weight. Graduate Nurse (T&RC): entry level; possesses a limited permit as a graduate nurse or is eligible to enter examination for licensure as a registered professional nurse in New York State; under the close supervision of a higher-level registered nurse, provides direct nursing care to individuals in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law. Illustrative Duties Graduate Nurse (T&RC) Prepares or assists with preparation of nursing care plans consistent with individuals’ comprehensive treatment plans and medical needs. Carries out treatment procedures, administers medications, and monitors individuals’ conditions. Records notes and maintains individuals’ medical records and nursing care plans, including nursing care, medications, and treatments, reactions to care and treatment, intake and output of liquids and solids, and vital signs. Participates in the development, implementation, and revision of individual care plans as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Modifies nursing care plans based on individual condition and responses to care and treatment. Triages individuals by inquiring about illnesses, injuries, and symptoms, and records findings and observations. Registered Nurse 2 (T&RC) Positions perform duties in each of the three functional areas described below. Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 (T&RC) Plans, directs, and supervises nursing services on an assigned unit, including direct supervision of Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) and other staff. Directs the development and implementation of nursing care plans on a unit. Provides individual care, and functions as an educator and nursing services expert. Assesses work methods of nursing staff and provides feedback to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care delivered. Coordinates medical and nursing care needs with other health care providers and departments. Ensures proper functioning of equipment and unit compliance with safety and environmental standards. Monitors nursing care quality standards, and implements corrective actions as needed. Attends and participates in medical committees to represent nursing staff needs and the individual population, and participates in writing of care standards. Identifies staff training needs and collaborates with unit educators to develop and implement educational programs.
