Psychiatrist needed / Part time Detention center in Brooklyn Job Description/Scope of Work: We are looking for a psychiatrist to join the Health Services Department at a detention center in Brooklyn. The Psychiatrist will conduct examinations on patients scheduled by the institution's medical staff. Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric evaluations and making referral recommendations for inmates. Each workday will consist of eight (8) sessions, totaling two (2) workdays per week (16 sessions + unpaid half-hour lunch). The candidate will have eight (8) sessions to complete a workday. Clinics will typically be scheduled between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm (including an unpaid ½ hour lunch) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding federal holidays. The scheduled days will be mutually agreed upon. Assesses the appropriateness of the requested services, medical supplies and appliances, based on goals mutually acceptable to the patient/ family. Notifies appropriate personnel at the Agency of patient referral, provides intake data, essential background information, and signed medical orders. Assures that Agency is ready to meet the patient's needs at the time of discharge by collaborating with Agency personnel on a regular basis. Explains the Agency's policies and services to patient and responsible family members following home care assessment and referral. Acts as a liaison with patient/families during the transitional period between the time the patient is discharged until admission visit. Determines financial coverage for requested home health services and informs patient/family of source(s) and extent of coverage and interprets reimbursement/coverage issues to facility staff. Develops, implements and evaluates systems to hand the management of referrals between source of referral and Agency to promote continuity of care. Provides an educational and consultative resource to the facility concerning appropriate home care services and community resources. Interprets governmental regulations regarding home care. Provides statistical data as required. Establishes and promotes an ongoing collaborative relationship between the Agency and facility to ensure the coordination of appropriate referrals. Acts as an Agency representative at facility based and community programs and functions. Assumed responsibility for professional growth to optimize clinical and managerial skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate information concerning a patient's condition clearly. Possesses leadership and supervisory ability. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, regulations and guidelines that pertain to homecare. Knowledge of the theory, methods and techniques required for rendering patient care. Demonstrates professional behavior, attitude and flexibility. Functions independently with minimum supervision. Working Conditions: Able to read 12 point or larger type. The Personal Care Aide is responsible for providing patient assistance with nutritional and environmental support and personal hygiene, feeding and dressing and/or, as an extension of a self-directed patient, selected health related tasks in his/her home or facility under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities: Carries out the Agency's mission, philosophy, goals and objectives within guidelines of Agency policy and position function. Interprets and implements the Agency's philosophy to staff and members of the community. Participates in the development and implementation of a realistic goal-oriented plan of care. Provides personal care and rehabilitative services and assists in activities of daily living as directed by the nurse or therapist. Follows care plan instructions as directed by the nurse. Provides Environmental Support: Make/ change bed linen, occupied or unoccupied. Light housekeeping: Patient areas to include kitchen, bath, bedroom, etc.; dust, mop, sweep, vacuum, clean kitchen sink, counter, stove top, table, refrigerator, clean bathroom sink, tub, shower, toilet. Clean up after meal preparation and provision of care. Personal laundry: clothing and bed linen, wash, iron, and mend, prepare for laundry service. Promptly informs nurse of changes, needs or problems with patients condition and/ or environment. Performs related activities as directed by the nurse. Adhere to care plan instructions. Qualifications: Written evidence of having successfully completed a New York State Department of Health approved: Basic Training Program in home health aide services; Or, Equivalency Examination or Competency Only Program in home health aide services; Or, Written evidence of having successfully completed a New York State Department of Social Services approved Training or Competency Program in personal care services; Compliance with Inservice Education requirements; Minimum of 18 years of age.
