Company Allegheny Health Network Job Description The CTICU is an 8-bed intensive care unit specializing in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular interventions and vascular surgery. We are a growing program, seeing new procedures and admitting upwards of 250 plus open heart surgery patients a year. Devices commonly utilized in this unit are IABP, Impella, EKOs, transvenous pacemakers and swan-ganz catheters. The unit is supported by Dr. El-Khatib, our primary cardiothoracic surgeon, 24/7 intensivists, and a team of interventional cardiologists. Our care is patient centered and our processes are nurse-driven. The multidisciplinary approach is vital to quality patient care with daily nurse-led patient rounds. Company Allegheny Health Network Job Description GENERAL OVERVIEW This job is an integral part of the care delivery system working together to provide a healing environment, by placing our customers first. The incumbent provides primary healthcare services for non-acute or chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice. Work is performed in an inpatient setting dedicated to Primary Care, 24/7 coverage shifts, weekend, and on-call coverage on a rotational basis, as required. The schedule for this position is 7 days on/7 days off ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Provides comprehensive, evidence-based patient care for geriatric patients and those requiring inpatient primary care. This includes conducting thorough daily rounds, performing advanced medical history and physical assessments, formulating, and implementing patient-centered treatment plans, interpreting diagnostic test results, and facilitating safe and effective discharge planning. (20%) Facilitates seamless communication and coordination of patient care activities with patients, families, community health services, and the entire interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient experience. Involves physician in clinical decision making of any issues that are outside the PA-C knowledge base or scope of practice. (15%) Collaborates proactively with the attending physician, primary care team (if different), and specialists to develop and refine patient care plans. Seeks physician consultation and guidance for clinical decisions that extend beyond the PA-C's scope of practice or knowledge base, ensuring optimal patient safety and outcomes.(15%) Prepares written prescription orders for drugs as defined in the written agreement between the PA-C and the supervising physician(s). (10%) Assesses the specific learning needs of patients and their families, delivering culturally sensitive and age-appropriate education regarding their condition, treatment plan, and self-care strategies to promote understanding and active participation in their recovery. (10%) Triages patient telephone calls, provides monitoring and continuity of care.
