Department: 36101 Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center - Emergency Department: Pediatric Status: Part time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hou rs Per Week: 20 Schedule Details/Additional Information: This is currently a part-time position with variable hours Pay Range: $41.10 - $61.65 Pediatric Care Coordinator – Pediatric Emergency Department Winston-Salem, NC, United States Where You Will Work: The Brenner Pediatric Emergency department is composed of 24 beds with two of those being our dedicated Trauma Bays. The emergency department specializes in treating children up to age of 17 with a broad spectrum of illness and injuries including orthopedic, respiratory, cardiac, chronic illness, abuse, psychiatric care and of course trauma. We became a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in 2011 and have continuously upheld this Credential. We see approximately 600 plus traumas including burn activations a year in the department as we are also a dedicated Burn center. We offer a robust trauma program to our nursing staff that includes a trauma bootcamp, trauma team lead course, Trauma Nursing Core Course, and quarterly trauma simulations to ensure our staff have adequate training and knowledge to provide the upmost care to our community. We also have a growing SANE team that is available or on call to provide care to abused children. Expectations We’re Looking For: Nurse, Registered (RN) Graduate from an accredited school of nursing • Bachelor's degree, BSN preferred • 2+ years ED experience • 2+ years pediatric experience Good communication skills • Computer skills • Good time management and organizational skills • Familiarity with patient care equipment Current CPR • Once obtained, maintain current NIHSS, PALS and/or ENPC, ACLS, TNCC and/or TNS, ECRN, and appropriate certification - for example CEN or CPEN. What You’ll Do: • The Pediatric Quality Coordinator (PQC) is responsible for leading and overseeing multidisciplinary teams to monitor and promote the improvement in the care of the pediatric emergency department using identified clinical indicators and outcomes. In addition to responsibilities as a Nurse Clinician, the PQC will interface with ED, EMS, Trauma, Inpatient Pediatric, Advocate's Childrens' Hospital, and hospital-wide QI/PI activities. Major Responsibilities: PQC responsibilities 1)Responsible for implementing Pediatric Performance Improvement (P.I.) activities in the Emergency Department and throughout the continuum of care in the hospital. 2)Ensure and document pediatric continuing education of all Emergency Department professional staff. 3)Works with ED Shift Coordinators and ED Nursing Director to ensure compliance with documentation of the pediatric continuing education of all emergency department professional staff in accordance with standards 4)Works in conjunction with the multidisciplinary CQI committee to coordinate criteria-based review and follow-up with selected pediatric ED visits. Submission of a written CQI report to hospital and Region. Attendance at the EMS Region CQI subcommittee meetings as required. 5)Supports compliance of Facility Recognition Rules & Regulation from the Illinois Register for reference. Provision of CQI information to the Illinois Department of Public Health upon request. 6)Leads all preparations in pediatric codes or other emergency preparedness activities. Plans, oversees, and evaluates Pediatric Mock Codes on a quarterly basis. Conducts pediatric decontamination drills annually. Nurse/Patient Relationship: Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum 1)Demonstrates adaptive communication styles based on individual patient needs 2)Provides individualized care to promote physical and psychosocial comfort 3)Assesses patient and family readiness and involves them in planning and implementing care. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
