Under general supervision, assumes accountability to plan and provide direct professional nursing care for specified patients during his or her assigned shift as defined by population and unit. CLINICAL PRACTICE: Demonstrates clinical expertise and uses the nursing process to provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient population according to CCMC and unit policies and standards. Competently cares for all patients in med-surg and float assignments in the ICUs. Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers. LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING: Delegates duties and tasks associated with patient care to clinical staff according to hospital policy and their scope of practice. Participates in the professional development of others through preceptor/mentor activities and positive role modeling. Supports the department’s work productivity and resource management activities. DOCUMENTATION/COMMUNICATION: Completes all required documentation in a timely manner. Effectively communicates all information to members of the health care team. PATIENT/FAMILY PARTNERSHIP & EDUCATION: Partners with child and family in evaluating outcomes. Monitors and evaluates patient/family responses to treatment. Provides and documents appropriate education to patients and families regarding all aspects of care according to CCMC policies and standards. QUALITY AND SAFETY: Identifies safety concerns and barriers to optimal patient care and brings issue forward to appropriate leadership staff.
