Description This position is for a Nursing Assistant II (per diem). Our 31-bed unit provides care for family & general medicine with a heavy focus on geriatric nursing care. Performs Oxygen room set-up and monitors oxygen flow-rate, performs oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning, tracheostomy care, fecal impaction removal, sterile dressing change wound irrigation for wounds that are 48 hours old, IV fluid assembly and monitoring, IV site care and discontinue peripheral IV, ostomy irrigation and care, urinary catheterization and irrigation, performs established oral, nasogastric, and gastrostomy tube feedings. 2. Provide clinical support assistance to include, but not limited to, cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, re-stocking supplies, transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students. 3. Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies. 4. Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers. 5. Provide administrative and clerical support including PI audits and data entry. What you can expect Location: 2301 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC 27710 The Peds Transplant & Cellular Therapy unit, DCT 4A, is comprised of 17 beds and serves a blended patient population of pediatric transplant, cell therapy and general pediatric oncology, with an emphasis on high-risk oncology. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time. The DCT 4A team cares for oncology and sickle cell patients, as well as patients with metabolic and genetic disorders. Nurses in this unit work as part of a multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to participate in rounds on their patients. Nursing care is patient- and family-centered, with primary nursing teams delivering care alongside members of various other disciplines. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:3, depending on acuity, and the unit is staffed with a free-standing charge nurse and Health Unit Coordinator 24/7. The CNIII independently and creatively implements the nursing process for individual patients and identifies needs and plans care for unit patient populations. The CNIII is positive during changes and supports growth of peers. The CNIII is able to effectively communicate with all members of the health care team. Minimum Qualifications Education Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception:Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
