Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to provide clerical support at the nurse's station. Clerical support includes telephone communications, typing, data entry, scheduling of resident appointments/transport and requisition of medical supplies from Central Supply. The ideal candidate has experience with medical terminology, must be able to read write and understand the English language and preferably has experience in a Skilled Nursing facility. Obtains and assembles positional devices (fracture tables, Jackson tables, cerebellar headrests). Practices safety precautions throughout the perioperative phase of patient care. Handles all “sharps” in a safe and protective manner in consideration of self and others in supportive roles, such as Core Techs, environmental services, and CPD staff. Participates in “time-outs” prior to the start of surgical procedures according to hospital policy guidelines. Verifies medications, concentrations, expiration dates of all medications received on the sterile field in concert with the circulating RN. Handles and dispenses medications, irrigation solutions, and flushes (e.g. epi: 1:1000, local anesthetics, antibiotic irrigation) to surgeon within the sterile field. Handles, prepares, and dispenses hemostatic agents (e.g. thrombin, tisseal, floseal) to the surgeon within the sterile field.
