Job Summary : Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards, within the parameters of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and within the policies and procedures of Anderson Hospital. Job Responsibilities: Supports Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical, and religious diversity. Responds appropriately to infant security, hospital code and patient alarms, including required documentation. Uses effective communication skills with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families and visitors. Provides age appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, adolescent, adult , and clean gynecological populations. Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner, according to hospital policy and procedures. Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation. Documents readiness to learn, teaching, barriers and outcomes. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes. Engages in activities to expand and /or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice. Provides leadership and autonomy in the profession and practice settings. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate health care team members and monitors their activity and work performance. Facilitates and coordinates discharge planning based on patient needs. Demonstrates proficiency and competency in the care of the newborn by performing: Serum bilibrubins, transcutaneous bilicheks, photo therapy, glucose screening, antibiotic administration, newborn testing, and assisting with newborn circumcisions. Demonstrates flexibility to meet department, organization and patient/family needs. May be assigned as charge nurse which includes the following duties: Maintain patient flow through the unit. Assign and adjust staffing based on patient acuity. Complete RN Charge check off list in a timely manner. Act as a liaison with the nursing house supervisor. Demonstrate conflict management and problem solving skills in dealing with staff, patients, families, physicians and other departments. Education Requirements and Other Requirements: Education Level: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Certification/Licensure: Illinois license or eligible. BLS certification required. NRP preferred or must be completed within 12 months of hire. Experience Requirements: Minimum of 1 year obstetric nursing experience preferred.

Conduct patient registration, which includes securing required paperwork and insurance documentation, and verification of insurance and patient eligibility. Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments for assigned center. Coordinate provider referrals to assigned Specialist. Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, which includes conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirm purpose of visit; Perform preliminary physical test (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider as needed. Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to provider. Responsible for stocking supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have medical supplies needed. Responsible for completing order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels; regularly check expiration dates on supplies. Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence Ensure reception is well maintained Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up. Perform opening and closing duties, which includes cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed. Location SAINT LOUIS, MO 63110 Scheduled Hours 20 Position Summary The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive, hands-on care to pediatric surgical patients as an integral member of the Washington University Division of Pediatric Surgery at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. This position combines inpatient and outpatient pediatric surgical care, with a strong emphasis on direct patient contact, procedural care, trauma follow-up, and the management of children with complex wounds and burns. The Nurse Practitioner will participate in the Pediatric Acute Wound Service (PAWS), providing evaluation, treatment, procedures, and longitudinal management for children with complex wounds, burns, and other acute wound-care needs. The Nurse Practitioner will also staff outpatient pediatric surgery clinics and outpatient trauma clinics, including evaluation of new patients, postoperative follow-up, and ongoing management of surgical and traumatic conditions. In the inpatient setting, the Nurse Practitioner will provide coverage for acute surgical issues as they arise, assist with postoperative management, and coordinate care with the pediatric surgical team. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Provides direct patient care to pediatric surgical patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Obtains patient histories, performs comprehensive assessments and physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic studies, and develops and implements patient-centered plans of care in collaboration with the pediatric surgical team. Evaluates and manages acute and chronic pediatric surgical conditions and provides postoperative and longitudinal follow-up. Participates in the Pediatric Acute Wound Service (PAWS), providing direct care to children with complex wounds, burns, skin and soft-tissue conditions, and other acute wound-care needs. Performs appropriate bedside and ambulatory procedures related to wound and burn management, consistent with training, certification, collaborative practice agreements, and institutional policies. Provides wound assessment, dressing management, procedural care, and patient and family education for children with complex wounds and burns. Staffs and manages outpatient pediatric surgery clinics, including new patient evaluations, postoperative visits, and follow-up of pediatric surgical conditions. Participates in outpatient pediatric trauma clinics, providing follow-up care for children recovering from traumatic injuries and coordinating ongoing surgical and multidisciplinary needs. Provides inpatient coverage for acute surgical matters as they arise, including evaluation of new clinical concerns, postoperative issues, wound-related problems, and changes in clinical status. Assists with inpatient postoperative management, discharge planning, care coordination, and transitions between hospital and outpatient care. Collaborates closely with pediatric surgeons, fellows, residents, APP colleagues, nursing staff, consultants, and ancillary providers. Counsels and educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, wound and burn care, postoperative recovery, complication prevention, and follow-up. Manages health conditions through prescriptive authority, therapeutic interventions, diagnostic evaluation, or referral to other healthcare providers and resources as appropriate. Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, clinical education, and program-development initiatives within the Division of Pediatric Surgery. Documents and bills for eligible professional services in accordance with institutional policies and the collaborative practice agreement. Performs other duties as assigned. Ability and interest in working across both inpatient and outpatient environments. Demonstrated ability to function independently while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary surgical team. Interest in longitudinal patient care and continuity across hospitalization, postoperative recovery, and outpatient follow-up.
