The patients typically have had a complicated medical history and cancer journey. Many of the patients have undergone multiple treatment modalities. Due to the diversity of cancer and medical diagnoses as well as the range of treatment modalities seen, the nurses on this unit gain a varied and extensive set of skills. Nurses on this unit must be able to gain and maintain a high level of clinical knowledge in order to care for this patient population. This unit demonstrates Relationship Based Care in that the staff and management team highly value the care of the patient, care of self, and care of colleagues.
